'occasionally' you will hear the phrase 'in the stanchion', which basically means the top corner

most top football league goals don't have them anymore, they use a support pylon behind the goal and wiring for a nice square rigid netting, but they still use the phrase because that's what the English do, sentimentality, tradition and all that. You will also hear people refer to the post and bar as the woodwork, even though pretty much no goal frames are wood anymore

From wiki: In association football and other goal-based sports, horizontal or diagonal extensions to the goalposts that prevent the goalnet from drooping.

here's an example

example of Premier League and other top flight league goal netting

In swedish: Kryssribban

Which basically translates to crossbar. This is familiar to me

But if not in the woodwork. Top right/left corner

how do you call it when the ball enters the goal near post and crossbar (one of the upper "corners" of the goal)?

is there a specific expression for that?

AFIK "Top corner" what is it in german? In dutch its "kruising" best explained as, where the bar and the post meet.

we just call it "winkel" or "kreuzeck".

"top corner" is what i'll probably use from now on but i also like the american term "upper 90", makes sense too.
marieusz' post about "in the stanchion" was also pretty informative and i'm pretty positive i've never heard it before - unlike the term "woodwork" which i actually use quite frequently myself.

anyway, glad i'm asked, thx again, guys...
