Yes he did. But credit where credit is due. Congrats Waza!

People will continuously underestimate this man, but he has been such a huge part of the sport I love, from his first goal as a Toffee vs Arseholes, to his first goal w/ man utd vs arseholes, to now.

Rooney to become the top scorer at united, a pedestal he deserves.

i like rooney but tbh i dont rate his performances in recent seasons xd

True. Grats to him for failing to achieve anything with england. Being almost always raped by mediocre teams and farmers.
Congrats to him for having Penaldo and Tevez to win him the champions league and several titles. Grats to Robin Van Persie for giving him the last.
We all know rooney would have won precisely shit singlehandedly if he were to lead the line. In all the glory days he was lost in a midfield role in which he underperformed. Look at him now, trouble scoring as main striker vs bottom table teams. Needs 2 pelanties to score against mighty MALTA. Nonexistant ones.

The man is a Joke.

credit where credit is due. i absolutely agree. rooney certainly had a great impact on the english national team and this record is a huge milestone in english football history for sure. back in the day he was one of the best strikers in the world and i don't think it's off to call him a legend - and personally, i'm not a fan of calling just every good player who put in some work for a club or a country a "legend" right away. a shame for england he couldn't lead his country to a title or anywhere close.

the only thing i don't agree on is that he's underestimated or -rated. in england, it's more like the opposite but ok, maybe you're talking about this forum and you know: here, you're only as good as the last season you played - and some people even hate so much, they wouldn't admit a player / club / country is class even if he / it broke every record / performed even better / won every title their own "legends" could only dream of...

Correct, I am just talking about within the forum, not within England. I am pretty sure mostly everyone loves Waza. But the man is the quintessential player for someone I would want to captain my team. He is a work horse. He will do everything you ask him to do. His presence in the locker room and within the club is immense. LvG was quoted with saying that Wayne has a huge role off the field, when it comes to diet, nightlife, etc. Its like if i were a professional player, and Waza was my captain, he'd be someone I would have that respect for to do whatever he asked of. Idk, i guess i have a different aspect of players due to the fact i've actually played.

The debate Rooney being Legendary is a difficult one though. He is teetering on the edge of being a Legend, and im not sure if he is quite there yet.

You are so daft. You act like winning something with the National team is supposed to be easy. In a players career, they may play in 4 World Cups and 4 Euros if they're lucky. There can only be 1 winner. So whether they bow out in the group stages or lose in the finals, it is all a disappointment.

And for the 9000th time, scoring vs potato farmers shouldn't be celebrated ffs.

Some quotes from BBC article:

Rooney has scored only one goal in 11 appearances in the World Cup finals, against Uruguay in Brazil. Lineker's England goals came at a rate of one every 136 minutes compared to 162.5 minutes for the Manchester United forward. Charlton scored his at one every 193 minutes.

Before his record-equalling game in San Marino, England had played 105 games with Rooney and 41 without him. The win percentage without him (65.9%) may be greater than that with him (59.4%) but his record on the pitch reflects his importance.

How can you conclude that he isn't a flat track bully? Look at the teams he's scored against: 1 vs Argentina, 2005, 1 vs Netherlands, 2006, 2 vs Brazil, 2013 (all friendlies) 1vs Uruguay (2013) 5 of his 50 goals have come against decent opposition, the rest vs poor teams.
Plus, only 1 goal in the last 5 major tournaments. You'd expect England 'greatest ever' to step up to the plate at these times

--------------------------------------------

Was he good? Sure he was.

One of the best strikers England have had? MAYBE, just maybe, scrapes into the top 5.

Been awful for 3 years and if he leads our attack at the Euros we'll again not get very far at all.
