Schmeichel has the treble and he dragged fucking Denmark, yes Denmark to the Euro title
Zoff WC winner/Euro winner + all his club titles
Buffon WC winner + all his club titles
Yashin redefined the position
I have no doubt Courtois will continue to progress but I dont see him entering this mighty company quite yet.
I'd also argue he had far stronger seasons at Atletico - he didn't have a bus protecting him there and really, really stood out even though he was what 20? just my opinion though
Well, it would be pretty obvious if i mentioned Courtois is just 23 and he pretty much competes with older and more experienced goalies already and actually beats them skillwise, considering goalies actually peak after 27. So this guy is already, pretty much, better than peaking and peak'ed goalies and is himself not at his peak yet. Let's take the expected for granted (continuous evolving), and this guy gets much better in lets say 5 years.
And honestly, Belgium is producing very qualitative players for the last 5-7 years and the national team is getting better and better. Pretty much all the players play in european top teams now. It's just a matter of coaching. Once that part plays out, i see Belgium actually taking a trophy or two during Courtois' carreer.
If i recall correctly, Mourinho did let Cech go because (literally his words) he didn't wanted to ruin his excellent career by benching him for a huge prospect.
ooh, speaking of peaking. Neuer for example is peaking (age 29), started peaking in like 2012 (age 26) Give him 3-5 years peak-time and you'll see his name right beside Schmeichel.
So yeah, let's see what Courtois' peak will be like

and just a small addition, the year Denmark with Schmeichel won the Euro cup, Laudrup (Brian, not Micheal) played a huge roll as the playmaker for the team. I remember very clearly since that was basically my first major tournament i watched, i was 10 :).
Just googled for 1992 Danish National team, because i was not sure if Michael Laudrup played too that year, and found out that year Brian Laudrup even won Danish player of the year 1992 beating Schmeichel.
not taking away any form of credit from Schmeichel, but Laudrup + Schmeichel carried Denmark.
