There is that self inflated view that most Newcastle fans share

Sounds like you're describing a Liverpool fan though.

And the points aswethegods makes are actually valid.

They are to a point. But like you said Newcastle fans are a lot like Liverpool fans, expect great things based on "history" and when it doesn't go their way they start getting hostile.

Pardew deserves better imo. And going to Palace means not only will he have less expectation and less pressure, but also reportedly twice the paycheck.

He manages a club in which the support loathes him.
He is now moving onto a place in which the support will hail him as a legend.

I dont think he cares about the player quality and the increase in wages always helps.

Liverpool have accomplished much more than Newcastle ever have though, even in recent seasons.

At least Liverpool fans feel like they earned a shot at being in the champions league because we've won it in recent times.

Yes they have. That's why I would have no problem supporting the view that Liverpool is the bigger club compared to Newcastle -
and not just call it a "self inflated view", ignoring the points you made.

Newcastle fans don't expect huge things based on history as we have very little to speak of, especially in the last 40 years!

Frustrating for fans that a club with an average gate of 50k every home game and a billionaire owner can't even realistically compete for a europa cup place. That is a solid structure for success if you measure us against 90% of the other clubs in the league. That's why fans 'expect' more - nothing to do with history.

The least we could expect is an exciting team that puts a shift in every week but even that is a rare occurrence.

I don't totally dislike pards though, our real issue is Mike Ashley

Always some sort of drama going on though eh b)
