Well, if you are playing against a club that helped you develop, gave you support and you established a bond with, then it's pretty inappropriate to celebrate (unless it's say one of those late season games where your new team needs to win in order to win the league/avoid relegation/etc, and your former club isn't fighting for anything).

If someone like Altintop or Sahin scored against Real Madrid and then celebrated, I wouldn't care at all. If it was someone like Higuaín or Di María then it would hurt much more.

Also, it depends on where the game is played. I find that it's much more acceptable to celebrate goals against former clubs if you are playing in your new ground, and not in your former club's stadium.

It depends on the circumstances, but that's my opinion in general.

RvP didn't celebrate when United played on the Emirates, but he did on Old Trafford.

if you played at a club for 13 years and are loved by the fans and the players you shouldn't celebrate

There is a difference in celebrating a goal, and just taking the piss.

i think it's respectful not to celebrate if you had a longer / positive history with the club you scored against.
even if you don't have the decency yourself, the fans are a major part of the sport and there is no reason to piss them off by doing it.

i mean it's not like you don't try to score against your ex club, it's just a gesture of respect after it, that's not too much to ask from a professional athlete imo...

Then you didn't see Luis Enrique running around Bernabeu after scoring, pointing towards the Barça badge on his chest and saying "this is the stadium where I love Barça the most".

I`d celebrate in the highest style regardless of how good the past was. If I had lampard`s bullet proof one, not only would I celebrate it, but i would expect the chelski supporters to do it with me. They owe me, not the opposite.
