The president of the German Football Association (DFB) has resigned over a Fifa payment that has resulted in a tax evasion investigation.
Wolfgang Niersbach said he was taking "political responsibility" for a 6.7m euro (£4.9m) payment to Fifa.
The sum was allegedly used to bribe officials of world football's governing body to vote for Germany's 2006 World Cup bid.
Niersbach said he always worked "cleanly, confidently and correctly".
On 3 November police in Frankfurt raided the headquarters of the German Football Association over allegations of tax evasion linked to the 2006 World Cup.
The DFB denied the claims last month.
"I was involved in the bid for the 2006 World Cup from day one until the final documentation of the summer fairy tale was submitted," Niersbach said.
"I would like to make it clear unmistakably once again that I had absolutely no knowledge of the background of the flow of payments that are being looked into."
The homes of Niersbach, his predecessor Theo Zwanziger, and former Secretary General Horst Schmid, were also searched.
In a statement, the prosecutor's office said it had opened a probe into claims of serious tax evasion linked to the awarding of the World Cup to Germany in 2006.

Hardly news to me, as I suspected it for a very long time now - no way they would've ever been able to host the World Cup if it was up for a popularity vote.

FIFA needs to send a strong message now to make sure this sort of behaviour won't be tolerated - stripping their poster boys of their disgraced football off the last World Cup trophy would be a good start.

the obvious hate, rage, envy and trolling aside, you have a point - it is a shame.

in fact, all the football associations play(ed) the fifa game of bribes and corruption. there is literally no way to win a bid without it, i'm certain none of the last 5 and the next world cup bids were won without substantial bribes...
i hope the people responsible get punished accordingly and we can have a clean fresh start. it's time to end the corruption in football...

nice job hating on german football as always pozer

that every single tournament in the last decades was bought one way or the other should not be new to anyone here
and that our own dfb guys are somehow shady is also old news in germany, they finally got caught

that this payment was used to bribe some asian guys to vote for germany has not been proven however and that would also be fifa business

and yes, we were the favorites to get the wc in 2006 (do you really think anyone would vote for south africa without a bribe? )
unfortunately england had barely a chance to begin with so they supported our claim in exchange for germany supporting england for the next ec
as i said, payments of some sort are involved to get tournaments for decades, only the most naive people would think it was different for our country

whatever happened back then, the wc 2006 was absolutely amazing and one of the best ever, perfect organisation, stadiums, fans, everything except the winner maybe :P
and i wont let anyone take that away from me

and yes pozer, we are the fucking world champions B)
deal with it

Hardly new news. Everyone knows how shady it all is and why people are asking for fifa to disband and start a fresh organisation for world football.

2006... What a great year
I didn't hear a single vuvuzela during any of the games, and for that reason alone this man is innocent.

Pozer is doing the same thing witch you germans always do vs other countrys, italy for example. Your country i strong to blame others for their faults and mistakes, but then on the other hand very sensitive when it gets criticism from others.

If italy p.e. has a scandal again (high probability xD) you germans here are the first here to make a topic about it

i dont know why i think its just deep hate

or how do you call english people? Island-Apes right?
