Pretty sure he coached Atletico Madrid at one point, should manage to do well IMO.

My guess is he will bring in alot more spanish players tho.

QSF has thrown away his carreer over that last 5 seasons, and I don't understand why.

He's a proven coach, he has done well everywhere he has coached in spanish football... had a good run with Getafe, reconstructed the Valencia Ranieri had destroyed and always finished 3rd with them, then went on to win the EL with Atlético (their first trophy in 14 years) while promoting players like De Gea and Koke into the first team. He also won the cup during his one season spell at Benfica (although his league performance was an underwhelming 3rd place).

But then he went to coach some teams in the middle east and dissappeared from first level football, dispite having a proper reputation. Now he signs for a 2nd level english team... I don't understand it. Almost any topflight club here would be interested in him. It just seems like lack of ambition, and it's a shame. He's not an outstanding coach, but he's definetely a solid one. Let's see how he adapts to the championship.

Second lvl teams arent a lack of ambition perse. Middleeastern clubs on the other hand are.

Na.

Middle-eastern clubs usually pay you a few millions for half a season + signing on fee. Its unlikely to stay there for more than that, the sheiks are really lol when it comes to stay away from involving themselves in picking the first 11, any decent coach gets the sack in less than a year.

Receives 2-3-4 mios as compensation for the sack shortly after.

From the football perspective it is indeed meh, but from a financial point of view, its very lucrative.

Watford are a Premier League side now and they're a very interesting football project with rich and well connected owners.
