Morroco, the host of the upcoming ACN in january, has announced that they refuse to host the tournament in order to protect their citizens from the ebola virus.

They claim that hosting the event would be very risky as they can't control the thousands of people that would be moving in and out of the country during january.

They asked the CAF to postpone the event, but their petition was rejected and so withdrawing from hosting the event was the only option left.

I guess this means no ACN in 2015...

A good decision, health is more important than football. I doubt any country, be it Morrocco or any rich western country, could properly control an ebola spread with dozens of thousands of western africans visiting your country and then going into stadia packed with thousands of other people. If they can't control it, it's good that they are responsable enough to admit it and cancel the event.

Tbh about the ebola thing, every country should act like DR of Congo acted when they witnessed it in the 70-ies. Declare martial law and place everything under strict quarantine.

Ofc football won't happen.

Agree'd.

Also, a lot of players (as far as i can remember) never liked playing in this cup anyways. So it's a win-win situation for everyone.

It's just retarded that they host it biannually and on january. The heat argument is bs because it's winter in half of the continent, and in most of the other half temperatures are ok to play in during night time. Just schedule the games at 8 and 10 pm instead of 4 and 6pm and you are good to go; it would be way better if the tournament was held in june every 4 years.

The same happens in CONCACAF. They schedule it biannually to increase revenue and interest but it does lose its prestige. I don't see any advantages to hosting it in January either. As you said, it makes more sense to schedule the games at a later time.
