and why would a defensive player not be a halfway decent finisher?

from that distance and chance? It would be harder to miss. So you can't compare position when you are that close. Anyone that is a professional player in the highest division should have the technical ability to tap in a ball.

I'm not denying that he should be scoring from there. He absolutely should.

I'm saying that he should be under less scrutiny than if Torres missed it, for example. He is young and from his position is not expected to score many goals.

So are you implying that if a GK misses a PK and a striker misses a PK, the striker should be scrutinized more than the GK?
