I don't kill but I shoot them. If you break into my house and are threatening me or trying to steal my belongings... I'm going to stop you.

Any particular reason you wouldn't shoot to kill?

I'm too drunk to tell if you're trolling us. :(

Earlier this month some guy who looked a lot like Butthead's father (right) was pacing outside the house looking in the windows.

My mom stupidly went out to talk to him rather than just lock the doors and call 911. I let the dog out and she chased him off. Still, it made me realize that there was nothing I could do between the time I called 911 and the police getting here if he decided to get violent.

I've been meaning to get a gun for a couple years now, but I kept putting it off. Maryland requires you to go through a whole lot of bullshit just to get a permit to own a gun. My permit is pending, and after it clears, I'll probably get a .38 or something.

Well I would think those reasons are obvious. No sane person wants to just pop somebody out of existence.

The only reason I would do any differently is because I think somebody in that situation is capable of firing back and killing me.

Shoot to kill, sound or not at all, the fact is we don't really know what we'd do. We may think we know but until the situation comes around, we don't know.

That being said, I'd like to think I'd shoot to put them down. I only have my one shot gun here (rest is at parents house) so not sure how practical thatd be, plus the mess would be awful in close quarters lol.

I'm a fairly paranoid human being, and I'm 6'0" 250 lbs, and all my limbs work. I can definitely see how you would feel a little safer with a pistol within reach.

I'm a very left wing guy, and I hate gun nuts, but I would be lying if I said I wouldn't feel safer with a Glock in my desk drawer. The only reason I haven't bought a piece is because I'm broke (duh), and because I'm a little worried about how easy it would be to put that Glock up against my temple and just leave everything behind.

Fortunately, I don't live in a violent neighborhood and havn't had to make some tough choices on the matter.

I mean unless this dude is wielding a large weapon I don't really see it fit plus I'm not trying to deal with any legal repercussions via some loophole or social backlash.

Well if he's black (as i think we're all imagining he is in this scenario) then just fire away, you won't get in any trouble. If he's white though, maybe just inform him politely that you have a weapon and you both can smile and laugh as he apologies and leaves, locking your door on the way out.

Weapon size/caliber doesn't mean much unless you're fighting from a distance and wearing ballistic armor. One shot from a .22 can kill you, easily.

In America you're pretty protected if you're in your own home and the other person is armed. IIRC most of the lawsuits where the person breaking in is awarded a settlement is when they're unarmed.

for a second I thought you said dual wielding, like 1 pistol is okay, but dual-wielding pistols crosses the line like this is some FPS or something lol
