7-9 is lowest ill go
If we go 0-16 but look good while doing it I'd be in favor of keeping him. Win/loss at this point is a useless benchmark because of how terrible we've been and how good the competition has been. Make no mistake--through the last 8 games of the season, we were the worst team in the NFL by far. It is unrealistic to expect to jump 16 teams in a single off-season.
Be honest with yourself--how many units can we say we've figured out for the next 3 season (besides K/P)? I'd say 3--TE, RB and FB. We have nobody at WR, QBs are still a mess, line is terrible...and on the flip side, we have no CBs, Woodson is retiring soon and Branch is returning from a season-long injury, LBs are decent but struggle in coverage, and our line is good enough but not great. DTs are okay but we really only have one DE. With this many problems, I don't view 8-8 as a reasonable goal. How about not giving up 4 passing touchdowns a game? How about consistently putting up 20 points? We looked like a college team out there last season. Before we start even talking about winning games we need to talk about PLAYING games, 'cuz for at least half of last season we weren't even doing that.
Allen hasn't done a great job, but he's at least made some moves. Our WRs look better than they did 1-3 years ago. LBs are the strongest they've been in that time frame. FB/TE/RB have all stayed the same or improved, and we have young QBs that have shown flashes of potential. We lost Lechler, the GOAT punter, and got King, who kicks the ball even further. Our O-line is shit, but it's been shit for a long time. Our CBs are shit, but they've been shit since Asomugha left.
If Allen can take two units and improve them significantly by the end of next season I'd consider that a win. We're slated to struggle for several more seasons no matter who our coach is--that's just the shit position we've dug ourselves into as an organization. Take someone that can draft well and ride them for a few years to get the pieces in place.
