you'll be lucky to see a playoff win with Dalton at QB rofl
Good riddance to Jay Gruden in my opinion. He had his chance to work with Dalton, yes he helped the Bengals to the playoffs, but didn't produce the desired results with Dalton. Good luck in washington Gruden, I put my money on him screwing it up and getting fired before his contract plays out.
Hopefully we don't lose Mike Zimmer to the Vikings or the Titans, I would be upset. I've heard that Zimmer would actually rather stay in Cincinnati anyway, only God knows why…
Marvin Lewis has got to go. Any other coach in the National Football League would have been fired the night of the Bengals losing their third consecutive wildcard game. 11-5 is a beautiful season, I just can't shake the feeling that the bengals can't help but blow the easy games, and the team looked downright sloppy the majority of the season, even if it was winning. This team could've easily gone 12-4, 13-3, hell even 14-2. We excelled against playoff caliber teams in the regular season but can't handle a beaten down Chargers team, that barely slipped into the playoffs. Bet we couldn't have even handled Pittsburgh if they had slipped in.
Being a bengals fan is frustrating. You always have that sense that no matter how good we look in the first half, first quarter, or even the previous game; that the bengals are somehow going to lose in a highly disappointing way. As bengals fans, we have come to expect the inevitable crumbling of the offense. I personally believe that this crumbling on the offensive side of the ball had a lot to do with Offensive play-calling (aka, jay gruden's job,) which can easily be fixed.
Andy Dalton has proven that he cannot perform well in big games, and that he lets his confidence be shattered by one bad play. He does not rebound. He has all the weapons necessary to blow apart, I mean absolutely destroy other teams. Two excellent tight ends, a very dependable and deep WR core. A resilient offensive line. Gio (need i say more?) And yet Andy Dalton cannot keep his head in the game long enough to not throw interceptions that make the opposing defense look absolutely stellar. He overthrows, under throws, or throws the ball right to the corner. Don't get me wrong, we have all seen Andy throw excellent passes that blow your mind, just by how accurate they are. To fix Andy's problem he needs more coaching, or better coaching. He also needs to know that his starting position is up for grabs. I say draft another qb with our second pick (after a decent corner) to create some competition for the starting job. Dalton too often forces passes, throws into double and triple coverage. He stares down his choice receiver, from the moment the ball is snapped. He is predictable. I see three sides of Andy Dalton really. You could compare him to the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good-andy is october-andy. Remember when he pulled AFC's offensive player of the month for october? No explanation necessary. The bad andy is the andy dalton that plays bad, but is outshines by a stout defense and a downright nasty running attack. We still win games with this type of play. The UGLY andy is the andy that throws 3 or 4 interceptions, and fumbles. This takes any chance away from the bengals of winning. No defense can keep up with Andy dalton throwing the ball to the other team. I believe Ugly-Andy would be seen far less frequently if he had competition for the starting job.
Back to Marvin. Great guy. I've met him a few times and he's one of the most genuine, yet professional people i've ever met. I would fully support promoting him to GM, he has an excellent eye for talent. I mean, look what kind of recruiting he's done in the past few years. I don't think he makes the cut at HC though. Yes, digging our franchise out of the dumps was an absolute miracle, but we need a change. Our ball club has become stagnant. We can't win a post-season game and to me that's a direct indicator that Marvin Lewis is letting down his team, his players. He has got to go. Mike Zimmer would make an excellent HC, but I also don't think we need another defensive-minded head coach. I would have killed to have a chip kelly in cincinnati, along with a mobile quarterback…can you say unstoppable?
If you read all of this, kudos…sorry for the wall of text guys...
