I'm optimistic about the pick.

I am pretty sure they could have got a lot more out of the 5th pick overall so I assume they really saw something they liked with this Barron fellow. My dreams of them picking up James were crushed today, as well :(.

Agreed - I thought we coulda traded for more - but saying that, we got back into the 1st Round and got a 3 down tailback - happy so far!

good thing we traded back, and traded back into the first to grab martin.
no round 2 pick but we can still nab a solid LB / CB in rd 3

I am stoked for this year. Realistically, the team was so bad statistically they have nowhere to go but up and they have a lot of new additions. I hope Barron pans out the way they want him to and I hope players like McCoy can live up to their potential. If the new RB backs up Blount well and they have a solid run game it should really open it up for Freeman and his enhanced corps of Jackson, Williams, Winslow, Parker, etc. I hope, most of all, that they are competitive. I saw far too many games, most in the latter part of the season, obviously, where the game would be all but over in the second half. Take that Cowboys game for example when they ran through the team like a hot knife through butter early and the rest of the game was them playing catch up and eventually just falling short.

Like you said I'm liking our D's potential. I think they can potentially help the possession ratio a lot and they can eliminate big runs/plays if the secondary really steps up. As I've said before they really, really need to work on their tackling mechanics. I've seen them fuck up tackles more times than I care to count last season and a lot of them were easy plays which should have only yielded a yard or two which turned into 8 -- 15 yard plays regularly. They need to watch some USC and 49er game type on how to tackle.

Anyone else excited for the prospect of Martin and Blount? I am - both will compliment each other, both can have a powerful 1-2 attack and the way I see it, Blount will pound up the gut to wear out the D, and providing he can learn, run block to allow the Muscle Hamster to run round and get yardage.

I like the situation B)
