I'm not necessarily sure it was his ego, but more of a case of overthinking things, Butler played a ridiculously high % of snaps the prior season(s) but all of a sudden he's not good enough to make 1 play in the super bowl? that's how I see it. Just because he supposedly had a bad week in practice you're going to sit your starting CB in one of the biggest games of his career?
you're probably right but no one knows for sure, maybe he jumps a route and makes a game changing INT, or maybe he makes one or two more tackles that our CB's couldn't handle (Bademosi or one of our other scrub DB's missed a blatantly easy tackle). While there's no doubt we benefited overall in the AFCCG from the refs, in the super bowl that was not the case like you say; Eagles clearly had the benefit of the doubt most of the game. The clement TD... the illegal formation that went uncalled... etc. I chalk it up to inconsistency but that ESPN report that came out a few days ago made me a little upset.
We did get lucky vs the Jags. The fumble that was ruled down by contact (should have been 6 for the Jags) complete lack of calls at the end etc.. I still stand by that the Jags just fucked themeelves by doing the typical prevent bullshit that people do, but the refs helped that along. It was an insanely entertaining game and I'm happy that we got to make it there again. Even though Brady is now 0-3 when he's MVP for the year, at least each year he plays his best, he makes the SB lol. I understand why people are upset about the Butler thing and sure, maybe he would have jumped a route or two that could have made a slight difference but there was NO stomping that offense. Foles had all day and he was on fire in the pocket. I didn't think we had a chance in hell of winning against Atlanta without a pass rush and it was the same thing as the Jags game. The Eagles never slowed up for even a single fucking drive and that's why they won, and the other two SB caliber teams we played in the last two years (Jacksonville+Atlanta) would have stomped us too had they done the same.
You can't win against the best teams without any QB pressure unless those teams help you by beating themselves. That's what we saw in two games, but the Iggles refused to go out that way.
