Dear diary: I want to put all my thoughts/feels down on paper--might as well do it here... First, I can't even IMAGINE what sheriff can think back on because I've really only been a hardcore Lions fan since 2002.

Did anyone else see this last playoff game going against us somehow? This last playoff game defied everything that has happened since I've been a fan. I can't really point back to any specific situation where I said "wow we got lucky there.....that call went our way"....

I can think back on so many years questioning why I even watch football--I've always enjoyed the sports but sometimes I wondered if I wanted to be disappointed.

I spent some time today looking back at some drafts....and man...

Joey Harrington..... Charles Rogers....Roy Williams....Mike Williams..Dan Orlovsky....Ernie Sims....Calvin Johnson(imagine if we didn't land this one?)....Gosder Cherilus....Cliff Avril...

Remember all the running backs? Kevin Smith was solid for a good while it seemed....but then I can remember drafting what felt like one a year....Jahvid Best(man he was fast--I can remember reading he had to hang it up because of too many concussions :(.....I think he could've been great..).. Mikel Leshoure seemed promising(I think I have a Leshoure sig somewhere...he tore his achilles in practice and missed his entire rookie season..

Ryan Broyles...I can remember the excitement for him(watching the college highlights etc)....think he tore ACL and then never really ended up playing much? Ameer Abdullah.....Kerryon Johnson....Ty Johnson...then swift and now finally Gibbs....

This team is insanely different from any of the others in years past. Definitely can look forward to the next ten years and know it'll be a team worth watching.

Dude,

All those names unlocked like a core memory of mine. I remember thinking Kevin Smith was the answer to our run game.. and like you said Best was soooo fast, but with his concussions he just never panned out. None of those teams were consistent, there was no leadership, and they always just failed us in the end.

It’s kinda weird having people talk to me about my lions hat lol

I get a lot of “hope you guys win it all” “you guys got a shot if you can make it past 49ers” etc

It used to be “wow must be tough being a fan” if anything at all lmao

I know how you feel. As a kid i was happy to be a lions fan, because i didnt really understand that they were fucking bad lol but after i moved to california in 2000 and i saw all my friends being 49ers and raiders fans and their teams had relative success i pretty much just stopped caring about football for a good 8-10 years until like 2010-11-ish i started getting back into it and even though the lions were still comically bad i was able to put aside my jealousy for my friends cheering on their teams and just enjoy the sport even if my favorite team wasn't winning games. What also helped alot was picking a bandwagon team each year, usually a team that had significance on my fantasy football team. But yeah I am super stoked we finally broke through and were able to win a playoff game, but i know it means so much more to my home state of michigan than it will ever mean to me as a person lol
