I got into an argument with somebody earlier who claimed that cutting Jones makes the situation at ILB instantly better. I don't care how bad he was, releasing a veteran backup doesnt help no matter who the player is.

Jones being gone I think helps; Hawk, however, I thought we ought to have kept another year as a mentor and situational player.

Both had one year left on their contracts, most of which is now dead money against the cap. Even if he was only an emergency backup or special teams player for the year, the roster doesn't look better right now than it did with him on it. It probably will on Sunday morning, but cutting Jones doesn't make the situation better instantly, which is what the claim was.

I kind of agree, but i also disagree. I think we have some decent ILB's stashed on our practice squad that can fill the position if need be. Then again I also think that Clay preformed better and had a much more significant impact on games as a MLB last year...honestly i thought he got caught over pursuing too much in his pass rush position and took himself out of plays frequently.

The second part of what I just said is kind of a random ass tangent and doesn't really pertain to the conversation what-so-ever so feel free to respond to that if you are so inclined as well.

Jones made too many asinine mistakes. He made us better on paper maybe, but I didn't trust him for 2 seconds on the field.
