Week 8
MIAMI DOLPHINS (3-3) at JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (1-6)

GAME FACTS

DATE: Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014
TIME: 1 p.m. ET
SITE: EverBank Field
TV: CBS
TV ANNOUNCERS: Andrew Catalon, play-by-play; Steve Beuerlein, game analyst; Steve Tasker, game analyst
DOLPHINS RADIO NETWORK: Clear Channel, WBGG (105.9 FM) and WINZ (940 AM) and a network of affiliates throughout Florida; WQBA (1140 AM-Spanish)
RADIO VOICES: English broadcast — Jimmy Cefalo, Bob Griese, Joe Rose, Kim Bokamper; Spanish broadcast — Raul Striker Jr., Roly Martin

THE SERIES

SERIES RECORD: Teams are tied 3-3 (including playoffs)
AT MIAMI: Teams are tied 1-1
AT JACKSONVILLE: Teams are tied 2-2
LAST MEETING: 2012 at Miami; Dolphins 24, Jaguars 3
HISTORY LESSON: The last time the Dolphins played in Jacksonville, they left with a 14-10 victory, but the game in 2009 will be remembered for quarterback Chad Henne — who now is the backup for the Jaguars — tying a Miami record with 17 consecutive completions. Henne’s streak began with a 15-yard completion to Davone Bess in the first quarter and ended with a 7-yard pass to tight end Joey Haynos that was followed by a misfire in the direction of fullback Lousaka Polite. The Dolphins secured the victory by stopping three fourth-quarter Jacksonville drives — on downs, a punt and downs again — that reached Miami territory.
SERIES TREND: The games in this series generally haven’t been close or high-scoring. Only once have both teams scored more than 10 points, that coming in the first meeting back in 1998 when the Jaguars won 28-21 in a Monday night game in Jacksonville. That game also was one of only two in the series decided by less than 14 points, the other being the 2009 game.

SCOUTING REPORT

JAGUARS’ RECORD: 1-6
LAST GAME: Beat Cleveland, 24-6
OVERVIEW: The Jaguars suffered through some growing pains in the early part of the season, losing their first four games by an average margin of 23.5 points. But Jacksonville has been competitive the last three weeks, starting with a 17-9 loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which was followed by a two-point loss against Tennessee when a potential game-winning field goal was blocked, which was followed by the convincing victory against the resurgent Browns. Head Coach Gus Bradley’s young team switched from former Dolphins starter Chad Henne to 2014 third overall pick Blake Bortles at quarterback in the third game, and Bortles has shown promise along with the occasional rookie mistakes.
KEY NEW FACES: QB Blake Bortles (draft-1st round), WR Marquise Lee (draft-2nd), WR Allen Robinson (draft-2nd), LB Telvin Smith (draft-5th), G Zane Beadles (Denver), DE Red Bryant (Seattle), DE Chris Clemons (Seattle), RB Toby Gerhart (Minnesota), DT Ziggy Hood (Pittsburgh), LB Dekoda Watson (Tampa Bay)
KEY VETERANS GONE: DE Jason Babin, RB Justin Forsett, C Brad Meester, RB Maurice Jones-Drew, QB Blaine Gabbert, LB Paul Posluszny (injured reserve), TE Marcedes Lewis (IR-designated for return)

Week 9
MIAMI DOLPHINS (4-3) vs. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (5-3)

GAME FACTS

DATE: Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014
TIME: 1 p.m. ET
SITE: Sun Life Stadium
TV: CBS
TV ANNOUNCERS: Ian Eagle, play-by-play; Dan Fouts, color analyst; Jenny Dell, sideline reporter
DOLPHINS RADIO NETWORK: Clear Channel, WBGG (105.9 FM) and WINZ (940 AM) and a network of affiliates throughout Florida; WQBA (1140 AM-Spanish)
RADIO VOICES: English broadcast — Jimmy Cefalo, Bob Griese, Joe Rose, Keith Sims; Spanish broadcast — Raul Striker Jr., Roly Martin

THE SERIES

SERIES RECORD: Dolphins lead 15-14 (including playoffs)
AT MIAMI: Dolphins lead 9-4
AT SAN DIEGO: Chargers lead 10-5
AT TEMPE, ARIZ.: Dolphins lead 1-0
LAST MEETING: 2013 at Miami; Dolphins 20, Chargers 16
HISTORY LESSON: All Dolphins fans know that the Wildcat was unveiled in 2008 in a Week 4 game against the New England Patriots. But it’s important to note that the week after that 38-13 victory at Gillette Stadium, the Dolphins used the Wildcat extensively again in an impressive victory against a Chargers team that was on its way to its third consecutive AFC West title. Nursing a 17-10 lead, the Dolphins converted four consecutive third-down situations to kill the last 5:55 off the clock and secure the victory.
SERIES TREND: What stands out in the recent history of this series is the Dolphins’ dominance at home. The Dolphins have won the last seven meetings in Miami, a streak that started after the Chargers’ dramatic 41-38 overtime victory at the Orange Bowl in the 1981 playoffs. Since then, the Dolphins recorded victories in the 1982 playoffs and the 1992 playoffs, along with regular season victories in 1988, 1999, 2002, 2008 and 2013.

SCOUTING REPORT

CHARGERS’ RECORD: 5-3
LAST GAME: Lost at Denver, 45-31
OVERVIEW: The Chargers looked like one of the best teams in the NFL when they reeled off five consecutive victories following their season-opening loss at Arizona, particularly with quarterback Philip Rivers posting a passer rating of 123 or higher in each of those games. But San Diego is coming off consecutive losses against the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos.
KEY NEW FACES: CB Jason Verrett (draft-1st round), OLB Jerry Attaochu (draft-2nd), RB Branden Oliver (rookie FA), QB Kellen Clemens (St. Louis), CB Brandon Flowers (Kansas City), RB Donald Brown (Indianapolis), LB Kavell Conner (Indianapolis).
KEY VETERANS GONE: FB Le’Ron McClain, QB Charlie Whitehurst, NT Cam Thomas, OLB Larry English, WR Vincent Brown, RB Danny Woodhead (injured reserve), OLB Melvin Ingram (IR-designated for return), C Nick Hardwick (IR), C/G Doug Legursky (IR)

Week 10
MIAMI DOLPHINS (5-3) vs. DETROIT LIONS (6-2)

GAME FACTS

DATE: Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014
TIME: 1 p.m. ET
SITE: Ford Field
TV: CBS
TV ANNOUNCERS: Ian Eagle, play-by-play; Dan Fouts, color analyst; Jenny Dell, sideline reporter
DOLPHINS RADIO NETWORK: Clear Channel, WBGG (105.9 FM) and WINZ (940 AM) and a network of affiliates throughout Florida; WQBA (1140 AM-Spanish)
RADIO VOICES: English broadcast — Jimmy Cefalo, Bob Griese, Joe Rose, Kim Bokamper; Spanish broadcast — Raul Striker Jr., Joaquin Duro

THE SERIES

SERIES RECORD: Dolphins lead 7-3
AT MIAMI: Dolphins lead 4-1
AT DETROIT: Dolphins lead 3-2
LAST MEETING: 2010 at Miami; Lions 34, Dolphins 27
HISTORY LESSON: This will be the third consecutive time the Dolphins’ trip to Detroit comes in November, and they can only hope for a similar outcome as the first two. The last trip came on Thanksgiving Day in 2006 and left the Motor City with a 27-10 victory on the strength of quarterback Joey Harrington throwing three touchdown passes against his former team. The Dolphins also won in Detroit on Nov. 5, 2000 when Lamar Smith rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-8 victory.
SERIES TREND: Detroit’s victory at Sun Life Stadium in 2010 snapped the Dolphins’ five-game winning streak in the series, which has been marked by lopsided games. Only four of the teams’ 10 meetings were decided by seven points or less, and two of those were seven-point decisions.

SCOUTING REPORT

LIONS’ RECORD: 6-2
LAST GAME: Beat Atlanta 22-21 in London, England, in Week 8
OVERVIEW: The Lions have been seen as underachievers for a few years, but they have found a way to win games under first-year head coach Jim Caldwell. That was evident in Detroit’s last two games when the Lions rallied for one-point victories against the New Orleans Saints and the Falcons. Even more impressive is the fact the Lions got to the halfway mark despite star wide receiver Calvin Johnson missing the past three games because of an ankle injury that also had severely limited him the previous two weeks.
KEY NEW FACES: TE Eric Ebron (draft-1st round), LB Kyle Van Noy (draft-2nd), K Matt Prater (Denver), WR Golden Tate (Seattle), S James Ihedigbo (Baltimore), FB Jed Collins (New Orleans)
KEY VETERANS GONE: K David Akers, QB Shaun Hill, DE Willie Young, TE Tony Scheffler, CB Chris Houston, WR Kris Durham, LB Stephen Tulloch (injured reserve), T Corey Hilliard (IR), S Louis Delmas

TIME: 8:25 p.m. ET
SITE: Sun Life Stadium
TV: NFL Network, WFOR-4 (Miami-Dade and Broward counties)
TV ANNOUNCERS: Jim Nantz, play-by-play; Phil Simms, color analyst; Tracy Wolfson, sideline reporter
DOLPHINS RADIO NETWORK: Clear Channel, WBGG (105.9 FM) and WINZ (940 AM) and a network of affiliates throughout Florida; WQBA (1140 AM-Spanish)
RADIO VOICES: English broadcast — Jimmy Cefalo, Bob Griese, Joe Rose, Keith Sims; Spanish broadcast — Raul Striker Jr., Roly Martin

THE SERIES

SERIES RECORD: Miami leads 57-43-1 (including playoffs)
AT MIAMI: Dolphins lead 32-17-1
AT BUFFALO: Bills lead 26-24
AT TORONTO: Dolphins lead 1-0
LAST MEETING: 2014 at Buffalo; Bills 29, Dolphins 10
HISTORY LESSON: The last time the Dolphins played host to Buffalo in a prime-time game was in 2003 when the teams met in a Sunday night game in Week 3. The Dolphins defense was the story that night as Miami held Buffalo to 118 total yards and forced three turnovers in a 17-7 victory. Adewale Ogunleye led the defensive charge with a pair of sacks. Incidentally, the starting left defensive end for the Bills that night was Ryan Denney, the brother of current Dolphins long-snapper John Denney.
SERIES TREND: Buffalo has had the upper hand of late, with four victories in the teams’ last five meetings. The Dolphins, however, have won four of the last meetings in Miami, including convincing victories in 2009 (38-10) and 2011 (35-8).

SCOUTING REPORT

BILLS’ RECORD: 5-4
LAST GAME: Lost vs. Kansas City, 17-13
OVERVIEW: The Bills are coming off a disappointing loss against Kansas City, but they remain in contention for their first playoff appearance since the 1999 season thanks in large part to the performance of veteran quarterback Kyle Orton. Since taking over 2013 first-round pick E.J. Manuel, Orton has provided a spark on offense and he’ll bring a 98.3 passer rating into the game Thursday night. In his first start, Orton led the Bills to a comeback victory at Detroit and he later threw a last-second touchdown pass to rookie Sammy Watkins to steal a victory against the Minnesota Vikings.
KEY NEW FACES: WR Sammy Watkins (draft-1st round), T Cyrus Kouandjio (draft-2nd), T Seantrel Henderson (draft-7th), WR Mike Williams (Tampa Bay), RB Bryce Brown (Philadelphia), LB Keith Rivers (N.Y. Giants), LB Brandon Spikes (New England), QB Kyle Orton (Dallas), P Colton Schmidt (San Francisco)
KEY VETERANS GONE: QB Kevin Kolb, LB Arthur Moats, S Jairus Byrd, S Jim Leonhard, WR Stevie Johnson, DT Alan Branch, QB Thad Lewis, P Brian Moorman, WR T.J. Graham, LB Kiko Alonso (reserve/non-football injury list), G Chris Williams (injured reserve), RB C.J. Spiller (IR/designated to return)

Week 12
MIAMI DOLPHINS (6-4) at DENVER BRONCOS (7-3)

GAME FACTS

DATE: Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014
TIME: 4:25 p.m. ET
SITE: Sports Authority Field at Mile High
TV: CBS
TV ANNOUNCERS: Jim Nantz, play-by-play; Phil Simms, color analyst; Tracy Wolfson, sideline reporter
DOLPHINS RADIO NETWORK: Clear Channel, WBGG (105.9 FM) and WINZ (940 AM) and a network of affiliates throughout Florida; WQBA (1140 AM-Spanish)
RADIO VOICES: English broadcast — Jimmy Cefalo, Bob Griese, Joe Rose, Kim Bokamper; Spanish broadcast — Raul Striker Jr., Roly Martin

THE SERIES

SERIES RECORD: Miami leads 11-5-1 (including playoffs)
AT MIAMI: Dolphins lead 7-1
AT DENVER: Teams tied 4-4-1
LAST MEETING: 2011 at Miami; Broncos 18, Dolphins 15 (OT)
HISTORY LESSON: The Dolphins have had good success in Denver in their most recent trips, taking three of the last four meetings there. The last came in 2008 when the Dolphins left Denver with a 26-17 victory on the strength of three interceptions, including one that cornerback Will Allen returned 32 yards for a touchdown. The Dolphins also won at Denver in 2002 (24-22) and in the 1999 season opener (38-21).
SERIES TREND: After a streak of five consecutive meetings decided by seven points or less, the last nine games have seen only three of them fall within that margin. Even though Denver won the last time the teams faced each other, the Dolphins have taken five of the past seven meetings.

SCOUTING REPORT

BRONCOS’ RECORD: 7-3
LAST GAME: Lost at St. Louis, 22-7
OVERVIEW: The Broncos were rolling along at 6-1 and it seemed there could be little standing in their way of going back to the Super Bowl, but problems have surfaced in recent weeks. Beyond Denver losing two of its past three, including an AFC showdown against the New England Patriots, the Broncos are dealing with injury issues on offense. But with an offense led by Peyton Manning and a defense featuring several big names, Denver still figures to be in the mix in January.
KEY NEW FACES: CB Bradley Roby (draft-1st round), WR Cody Latimer (draft-2nd), T Michael Schofield (draft-3rd), WR Emmanuel Sanders (Pittsburgh), CB Aqib Talib (New England), DE DeMarcus Ware (Dallas), S T.J. Ward (Cleveland), RB Juwan Thompson, K Brandon McManus
KEY VETERANS GONE: CB Champ Bailey, G Chris Kuper, WR Eric Decker, RB Knowshon Moreno, K Matt Prater, DE Robert Ayers, LB Shaun Phillips, G Zane Beadles, DT Kevin Vickerson

Out: LB Jonathan Freeny (hamstring)

Questionable: G Daryn Colledge (back), RB Lamar Miller (shoulder/knee)
Probable: WR Jarvis Landry (shoulder), LB Koa Misi (ankle), G Mike Pouncey (hip), LB Kelvin Sheppard (hip/groin), QB Ryan Tannehill (left shoulder), LB Jordan Tripp (chest), WR Mike Wallace (calf), S Jimmy Wilson (hamstring)

GAME FACTS

DATE: Monday, Dec. 1, 2014
TIME: 8:30 p.m. ET
SITE: MetLife Stadium
TV: ESPN
TV ANNOUNCERS: Mike Tirico, play-by-play; Jon Gruden, color analyst; Lisa Salters, sideline reporter
DOLPHINS RADIO NETWORK: Clear Channel, WBGG (105.9 FM) and WINZ (940 AM) and a network of affiliates throughout Florida; WQBA (1140 AM-Spanish)
RADIO VOICES: English broadcast — Jimmy Cefalo, Bob Griese, Joe Rose, Kim Bokamper; Spanish broadcast — Raul Striker Jr., Roly Martin

THE SERIES

SERIES RECORD: New York leads 50-46-1 (including playoffs)
AT MIAMI: Dolphins lead 25-23-1
AT NEW YORK: Jets lead 27-21
LAST MEETING: 2013 at Miami; Jets 20, Dolphins 7
HISTORY LESSON: The Dolphins and Jets will be facing off at night for the 18th time, with the Jets holding a 10-7 lead in the previous prime-time matchups. The Dolphins’ last victory against the Jets in prime time came in 2009 when a late Ronnie Brown touchdown run helped Miami record a 31-27 victory. The Dolphins will be looking for their first prime-time road victory against the Jets after losing the first six meetings.
SERIES TREND: The Dolphins will be looking to extend a streak in the series that has seen the road team win the past four meetings. The Dolphins have had great success on the road against the Jets in recent years, winning five of the past six meetings in New York starting with the AFC East-clinching 24-17 decision in the 2008 regular season finale.

SCOUTING REPORT

JETS’ RECORD: 2-9
LAST GAME: Lost vs. Buffalo, in Detroit, 38-3
OVERVIEW: It has been a forgettable year for the Jets, who entered the season hoping that second-year player Geno Smith could prove the answer at quarterback but instead saw him struggle to the point where the switch was made to veteran Michael Vick. With the Jets all but mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, they’re going back to Smith for the game against the Dolphins. The Jets’ problems this season have gone beyond the quarterback position, though, with a lack of offensive playmakers and problems in the secondary heading the list.
KEY NEW FACES: S Calvin Pryor (draft-1st), TE Jace Amaro (draft-2nd), WR Eric Decker (Denver), WR T.J. Graham (Buffalo), WR Percy Harvin (Seattle), T Breno Giacomini (Seattle), RB Chris Johnson (Tennessee), LB Jason Babin (Jacksonville), QB Michael Vick (Philadelphia)
KEY VETERANS GONE: CB Antonio Cromartie, WR Santonio Holmes, S Ed Reed, KR Josh Cribbs, TE Kellen Winslow Jr., RB Lex Hilliard, QB Mark Sanchez, WR David Nelson, FB Tommy Bohanon (injured reserve), CB Dee Milliner (IR), G Brian Winters (IR)

INJURY REPORT

MIAMI DOLPHINS:
Out: LB Jonathan Freeny (hamstring), G Nate Garner (illness), CB Jamar Taylor (shoulder)
Doubtful: TE Charles Clay (hamstring/knee), CB Cortland Finnegan (ankle)
Questionable: T Ja’Wuan James (neck)
Probable: G Daryn Colledge (back), WR Rishard Matthews (groin), RB Lamar Miller (knee), C Samson Satele (foot), WR Mike Wallace (chest)

NEW YORK JETS:
Out: TE Jace Amaro (concussion), DL Muhammad Wilkerson (toe)

Week 14
BALTIMORE RAVENS (7-5) at MIAMI DOLPHINS (7-5)

GAME FACTS

DATE: Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014
TIME: 1 p.m. ET
SITE: Sun Life Stadium
TV: CBS
TV ANNOUNCERS: Andrew Catalon, play-by-play; Steve Beuerlein, color analyst; Steve Tasker, color analyst; Chris Fischer, sideline reporter
DOLPHINS RADIO NETWORK: Clear Channel, WBGG (105.9 FM) and WINZ (940 AM) and a network of affiliates throughout Florida; WQBA (1140 AM-Spanish)
RADIO VOICES: English broadcast — Jimmy Cefalo, Bob Griese, Joe Rose, Keith Sims; Spanish broadcast — Raul Striker Jr., Roly Martin

THE SERIES

SERIES RECORD: Baltimore leads 6-5 (including playoffs)
AT MIAMI: Teams tied 4-4
AT BALTIMORE: Ravens lead 2-1
LAST MEETING: 2013 at Miami; Ravens 26, Dolphins 23
HISTORY LESSON: The last time Baltimore came to South Florida for a December game was in 2007 and it resulted in a memorable victory for the Dolphins. Greg Camarillo went 64 yards for a touchdown in overtime after catching a pass from Cleo Lemon to give Miami a 22-16 victory. Lemon ended up with 315 passing yards that day, the most ever by a Dolphins quarterback against the Ravens.
SERIES TREND: Unfortunately, the 2007 game is the last time the Dolphins have beaten Baltimore. The Ravens have won the last four meetings, including a 27-9 victory in the 2008 playoffs. The game last year at Sun Life Stadium was the first decided by less than 14 points since that 2007 game.

SCOUTING REPORT

RAVENS’ RECORD: 7-5
LAST GAME: Lost vs. San Diego, 34-33
OVERVIEW: Two years removed from a Super Bowl title, the Ravens are trying to return to the playoffs despite having had to replace many pieces on their championship defense because of age, injuries and now the four-game suspension imposed on five-time Pro Bowl selection Haloti Ngata. On the other side, the Ravens have regained some balance thanks to the emergence of free agent acquisition Justin Forsett to revive the running game. Even in the passing game, Baltimore now has someone to take some pressure off wide receiver Torrey Smith, veteran Steve Smith Sr., who has experienced a rebirth after a sub-par season with Carolina in 2013. Baltimore finds itself among the six-pack of AFC teams with a 7-5 record but must find a way to bounce back after squandering a late lead to lose at home against San Diego last weekend.
KEY NEW FACES: LB C.J. Mosley (draft-1st), DT Timmy Jernigan (draft-2nd), S Terrence Brooks (draft-3rd), S Darian Stewart (St. Louis), RB Justin Forsett (Jacksonville), S Will Hill (N.Y. Giants), C Jeremey Zuttah (Tampa Bay), TE Owen Daniels (Houston), Steve Smith Sr. (Carolina)
KEY VETERANS GONE: DT Haloti Ngata (suspension), FB Vonta Leach, TE Ed Dickson, S James Ihedigbo, T Michael Oher, RB Ray Rice, TE Dennis Pitta (injured reserve), CB Aaron Ross (IR), CB Jimmy Smith (IR)

Jah Reid, tackle

Miami Dolphins:
