Bummer for Suh, getting Sued!

A woman involved in a car accident with Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is suing him for $1 million, according to reports by the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News.
The suit, filed in an Oregon court Thursday by Saadia Van Winkle, claims Suh engaged in negligence, reckless driving and intentional infliction of emotional distress when he crashed his 1970 Chevrolet Coupe into a curb, light pole, drinking fountain and tree on Dec. 3, 2011, in Portland.
Police said Suh was not impaired and was cooperative with officers after the accident. In the days following the accident, police amended their report after the passengers reported their injuries but had no plans to investigate the accident further.
Van Winkle’s attorney, Sarah Nelson, told the Detroit News her client suffered neck and back injuries, including a cut above her eye, requiring stitches.
“My client was bleeding at the scene, had a laceration above the right eye,” Nelson told the paper. “She still struggles with daily back pain and has got a scar above her right eye.”
A court date has not been set, according to The News.

Long, a former Utica Eisenhower star, made a leaping catch in a red-zone drill, then celebrated by spiking the ball. That's a big no-no in practice that is tantamount to disrespecting the defense.
Safety Louis Delmas and linebacker Doug Hogue were watching from the back of the end zone and started yelling at Long, who jogged back to the huddle and celebrated with the offense. Delmas picked up the ball and threw it toward Long.
"I didn't mean anything by it," Long said. "I got excited, emotional. I just wanted to get everybody pumped up and get everybody going."
He certainly did that.
"A couple days ago, he was balling so much that (receivers coach) Shawn Jefferson gave him the nickname Vanilla Gorilla," receiver Nate Burleson said. "So I thought that was tight. So from now on, Lance Long is the Vanilla Gorilla."
Long, 27, has had a hard time making any kind of name for himself in the NFL since his last season at Mississippi State in 2007. He last played in an NFL game in 2009, when he caught 20 passes in seven games and made one start for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Long said he likes his nickname. He just hopes coaches remember it.
"It's a spectacular receiver corps, and I feel like I have to put the pressure on myself, even if the coaches don't, to come out here every day and make plays," he said. "Whatever I can do, whether it's making catches whenever the ball's thrown to me or special teams or even blocking. Anything that I can do to help the team, that's what I'm going to show these coaches, and hopefully they'll see it."

I'm glad to see guys are trying to make everyone step up their game.

No one can give a timetable on when Jahvid Best will return to football, but this much is clear: It won't be anytime soon.

"The only thing I'd say is we're measuring Jahvid in weeks, not days," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Thursday. "He's not a day to day. A lot of these guys are day to day. We're measuring his progress in weeks."

Best has not been cleared for contact since he suffered his second concussion in two months last October in a Week 6 loss to the 49ers.

He finished last season on injured reserve, took part in organized team activities and minicamp this spring, and is currently on the physically-unable-to-perform list.

"He's doing very well," Schwartz said. "He's working very, very hard. He's in supreme condition and I know this, when he's cleared he's going to be tough to handle because he'll be ready."

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said during a visit to camp Thursday that the league is monitoring Best's situation "very closely" but that his return is solely in the hands of doctors.

"We're not influencing those decisions," he said.

Still, the NFL has been besieged by lawsuits in recent months from more than 2,500 former players claiming the league didn't do enough to protect them from brain injuries.

With so much litigation pending, Goodell said teams are managing concussions more carefully than ever.

"The Lions are taking a very cautious approach, which is the correct one," Goodell said. "And it's a medical decision and the medical people make those decisions. And that's true throughout the league.

"We have a greater awareness, we have a better understanding, but there's still a lot of unknowns when it comes to head injuries and being able to determine when someone's going to recover or how they recover. That's one of the challenges we have in medical science right now. So we're not waiting. We're trying to be proactive and make sure we're making changes to our game so that we can make the game safer."

that sucks--but think about it--had we drafted him--it's possible we would have been decent enough to win some games after that--thus we would not have gotten stafford the following year--or suh

so maybe it's a good thing to fuck up once in a while?
