More likely the Jags. If the space number Ewok posted is off the ~144 cap, they actually have much more. Due to rollover, their cap is 165 and they need to spend 89% of it this year.
We should have just over $64mil figuring in the roll over/new cap total and we have to hit 89%. We don't have to spend to the cap until 2017 though, which means we don't have to spend like crazy right now. Our GM has already said if they're highly interested in somebody, they will be aggressive, just like we were when we tried to sign Alex Mack. That doesn't mean they're going to just blindly throw money at FAs because they can.
Our GM has said from day one that we will build and maintain this franchise through the draft. They aren't going to build through FA. They're going to help add a piece or two from FA if needed, which he (our GM) has said he has no problem signing just mid tier FAs if need be. I have no doubts they have their eyes on a couple certain high priced FAs, but they aren't just going to sign guys because they can.
If McCourty does indeed hit FA, I'd bet that we'll be very interested in throwing a whole lot of money at him. FS is our biggest need and he would fit perfect as our single high free.
Thomas is another logical target considering how bad we need a big time pass catching TE. Clay isn't out of the question either though.
I'd love to sign Suh because he's a fuckin beast, but I'm not sure how he'd fit into our scheme. Would he be happy with being a rotational player, which is what they do with the DL to keep guys fresh. Suh and Marks would easily be the best 1-2 punch at 3 tech in the NFL. Both of them wouldn't be on the field in our base though. Neither is a 5 tech DE, or a 1 tech Nose. 3rd and mid-long would be straight nasty with 2x LEOs on the outside, with Suh and Marks on the inside.
They would obviously have a plan if they signed Suh, but I think high profiled FAs are more likely on Offense than Defense. Especially considering our Offense is young, young, young and our DL was/is our most veteran unit, as well as our strongest.
