i used to wonder why they would occasionally kick it twenty rows up into the stands

now i understand it's about fan involvement to keep the crowd engaged and make sure they're awake.

proving you can kick the ball far into the stands is more important than proving you can score. It's all about boosting the ego.

But imagine if the top athletes in the United States played soccer growing up, and not football, baseball or basketball, and trained their entire lives? The USA would be winning World Cup after World Cup every four years and dominating. A lot of those other countries, their best athletes only play soccer.

The intelligence is weak with this one.

I'm on the France bandwagon I guess. Looking for them to keep on advancing all the way to the end.

Your name speaks for itself, MGS1 >
How can you even try to say that the U.S. wouldn't have a better team if Soccer was more important here?
Sure, the U.S. has placed in the top 4 in medal count in the Olympics in the last 50+ years. But to think if our top athletes caring about Soccer would make us relevant in the sport? That's pure fucking stupidity.

Should have bolded the unintelligent part I guess.

"A lot of those other countries, their best athletes only play soccer.". LOL.

Spain - Rafael Nadal, Fernando Alonso?
UK - Lewis Hamilton, Andy Murray?
Serbia - Most successful basketball nation, Djokovic?
Germany - Sebastian Vettel...

I'm sorry but only a retard (American) would think that other countries ONLY play football. Yes, football is a major sport for most nations, but many of these football nations have dominated other sports like tennis, basketball, rugby, formula 1, etc, etc.

Basketball is one of the largest sports in America, yet Serbia, a tiny country has won more FIBA world cups than they have. Even after NBA athletes being allowed, the champions have been Serbia, Serbia, Spain and USA.

All in all USA is a nation of 320 million people, even if only 5% of of the country plays football that's more than the entire population of some countries (Uruguay, two time world cup winner, population 3 million). It would only be embarrassing if the USA didn't have athletes at world level.

You sure do love to boast about medals, but when your population is equal to that of half a continent it really isn't impressive anymore, Just like GDP is no indication of a nation's wealth (but GDP capita is much more so) you should look at medals per capita to get a more accurate performance of the athletic performance among nations.

Finland ranks as #1, all 4 scandinavian countries are in the top 6 , the USA? Way down at 37th, behind Canada and Belarus, just edging out Poland and Germany.
