We don't have our #1 receiver right now, and Gronk hasn't been performing as well as usual. It puts a lot of weight on Cooks' shoulders, but he was brought in to be our #1, and an actual deep threat. He's done good, and he's made some game saving good catches, buy he's had some crucial drops, lazy route running, bad blocking etc.. during crucial times as well.
I agree with you Zig that he hasn't got as much attention as I'd like, but I'd rather Brady spread the ball around, vs him giving up ints by forcing the ball to Cooks.
Like I said, he's had some huge moments for us, but he's also cost us a 1st down a couple of different times at important moments, and those are the moments that I'm missing Edelman the most. I want Brady to feel like he can ALWAYS go to Cooks when he draws 1:1 coverage on 3rd down, and I don't feel like that trust is there yet, but it could be. It seems as though he's improving, and I'm excited for the prospect of us actually having a real deep threat for Brady's final years. You know me, I'm always pessimistic lol. He could be better :P
that's a fair assessment. though Edelman has had years working with Brady, cooks is new to the system, as long as he continues to improve and get on the same page with brady he could be very special in years to come.
Cooks' had a few cringeworthy drops, but edelman has too throughout the years. Edelman's more versatile, more physical, better in the slot, probably a better blocker than Cooks, But Cooks is by far more talented as a deep threat. My point being is I think Cooks has had a fine year so far, I'm not disappointed by any means. Could he be better? probably a little sure but he's lived up to my expectations.
and if Cooks is always drawing 1:1 coverage on 3rd down opposing defenses are doing something wrong haha, but i get your point.
