I'm looking into the Jarrad Davis situation. Team declined option on him....

My question for the group is--How do so many first rounders turn into less than 5th round value? Is it that hard to evaluate what it takes to make it at the next level? I would think it should be fairly observable if that's what you get paid 6 figures to spend your life doing....It seems that some teams are better at drafting--or are they just better at developing talent?

I get that Lions may have reached a little on him--but he was at worst a 2nd rounder. "Experts" had him as a top 3 inside linebacker in the draft class. Looking back--seems like T.J. Watt would've been a steal(just realized Steelers went TJ Watt then JUJU in this draft.....)...Lions picked 9 picks ahead of Steelers and got Jarrad Davis and Teez Tabor lol..Although Lions grabbed Kenny Golladay in the 3rd so that's the only silver lining... Going back to the Steelers once more--3 out of their first 4 picks became Pro Bowlers (1. TJ Watt 2. JUJU 4. James Conner)

I read an article about that, doesn’t really seem to be any concern. It would make less than zero sense to move him at this current time. Quinn would deserve to be fired if he pulled the trigger on a trade like that unless we got a serious return for him that would pay off THIS season.

@emp I’m intrigued by our decision not to pick up Davis’ fifth year as well. Historically that’s a sign that we have no intention to keep him after this season - but he’s a good player and doesn’t seem to be an issue in the locker room. Injuries have been a concern so maybe that’s the reason? I don’t really understand NFL contracts - is there any way he could be re-signed for less than we would have owed him in his fifth year?
