Look at how we operate when Gronk is on/off field.
We still won 11 games without Brady in 2008.
He's still the GOAT, and I'd still suck him off for free, but Gronk is our best and most valuable offensive player.
We were plagued by injuries when Gronk was out, it wasn't just him, that's why the numbers look so bad. We also saw a significant decline once Lewis was out and then again when Edelman was out. Brady utilizes every single one of his weapons on the field, he also turns undrafted FAs into top 10 receivers lol, or guys just returning punts for bottomfeeder teams. Gronk is great and all, and I fucking love him, but Brady just gets the job done regardless of what he had. Castle had a much more solid team around him (line/defense) than Brady has had. Most of the credit needs to go to BB regardless, but it's impossible for me to say anyone other than Tommy Terrific is NE's #1 offensive player.
Edit - Castle was given a fucking 18-1 team lol. I mean... it wasn't exactly the same team, but we were still stacked. He had a decent year, but he threw what? 20 Tds or something all year as opposed to the 50 Brady threw the year before?
Most importantly to me, and one of the reasons I'll always see Brady as the #1 NE player. That fucking NE v SEA SB. We go against one of the best defenses the NFL has seen in decades and Brady throws for more yards and more TDs than any other team has allllll fucking year in the biggest fucking show on earth. He's just fucking clutch lol. Just hard to compare the two positions. There's a lot more pressure on the QB, it's hard being the leader ya know. Gronk is one of the best players I've seen in my lifetime, certainly the best TE of all time. Not only is a fucking monster down the field, but holy balls can the guy block as well. It's what reallllly puts him on a different level than guys like Graham imo.
