The Detroit Lions have offered defensive end Cliff Avril "significant multiyear offers," team president Tom Lewand told season-ticket holders in a Web chat Thursday.

Reuter: Impact DE prospects
Chad Reuter examines several DE prospects at each tier of the draft who could make an impact next season. More ...
We "continue to have dialog(ue) with Cliff and his agent," Lewand said, according to the Detroit Free Press. "We have made him some very significant multiyear offers ... We look forward to having him this year, at least on the franchise tag, and hopefully beyond."

Avril and the Lions have been in talks over a long-term deal, and the fourth-year pro said he doesn't plan to sign the one-year franchise-tag tender.

Avril was a no-show for the team's voluntary offseason workouts, which began Monday, and isn't required to participate in any offseason workout without a signed deal.

A key cog in the Lions' defensive front, Avril would be forced to play the upcoming season under a one-year contract if he and the team don't come to terms on a new deal before the July 15 contract deadline.

Avril started all 16 games for the Lions last season, recording 36 tackles and a career-high 11 sacks.

In other Lions news, defensive tackle Sammie Hill signed his restricted free-agent tender Thursday.

The guy isn't even worth the effort. A product of the defensive scheme.

Trade him away for draft picks and lets pick up players who can excel no matter what.

He isn't worth the money, man. Look Willie Young did well in our scheme. WILLIE YOUNG.. Turk McBride did well in our scheme. TURK MCBRIDE... He's a system player.

Any defensive end can put his hand down and rush towards the quarterback. I like the guy but I dont think he is worth as much as he wants. He's a average DE.

Most of his sacks came against bad o-lines also... 3 against chicago, 2 against tim tebow, 3 against vikings. Minus these and he had 3 sacks against quality o-lines. And he had no sacks down the stretch against SD, GB, or NO in the playoffs.

If we are looking at solely sacks. 08' he had 5, 09' he had 5, and '10 he had 8.5. So he's on a average pace.

He isn't JPP, he isn't Mario Williams, he isn't Jason Babin, Trent Cole, Osi, Mathis, Tuck, Allen, nor Peppers

He's not worth the money he wants.

Trade him.
