Or maybe they know more than you do.

Not sure why Rivers isn't on the list though.

Giants: Ayers flourishing in Tuck’s old role

Quote
It was surprising how little buzz Robert Ayers got as a free agent this offseason. He never lived up to the high billing of a former first round pick, but he was a key contributor to the Denver defense in his final two seasons there. He posted a Top 15 grade among 4-3 defensive ends last season, and was particularly good down the stretch after Von Miller’s injury. Yet nearly a month after free agency opened, Ayers had to settle for a two-year, $3.75 million base deal from the Giants, who were looking for depth after they parted ways with veteran leader Justin Tuck. If the first 2 weeks of this season are any indication, New York got a steal.

Despite Tuck having 12 sacks last season to Ayers’ five, the two players’ underlying production was strikingly similar. Adjusting for their snap totals, both were in the Top 10 at their position with an identical 10.4 Pass Rushing Productivity rate. And though Tuck made his biggest mark last season against the run, Ayers’ had a higher run defense grade and posted the second-best Run Stop Percentage of any starting 4-3 DE.

This season, Ayers has slid into Tuck’s role with great success. With three sacks and two QB hurries on just 30 pass rush snaps, he has the second-highest Pass Rushing Productivity of any 4-3 DE. But that’s a bit misleading, because 43.1% of his snaps have actually come inside at defensive tackle, taking Tuck’s old role in the Giants NASCAR package. He’s also graded well against the run, and has the seventh-highest overall grade at his position. New York entered this season with a lot of questions at defensive end, but it looks like Ayers has answered some of them by stepping in seamlessly for their former captain.

Ayers has been a great pickup... he needs to play over Kiwi. And Moore needs to play alongside JPP A LOT more.

Tiki Barber not ready to give up on these Giants, yet

Quote
Tiki Barber has not been shy about criticizing the Giants in the past, and this is certainly a team that is ripe for a ripping.

However, the Giants all-time leading rusher sees some hope for this 0-2 team. But first, the Giants have to find a way to survive an offensive malaise that probably will continue for at least a few more weeks.

“In three weeks or so they’ll start to click after they’ve seen it enough in game situations and made mistakes that are correctable,” said Barber, who is now a national morning host for CBS Radio.

“Most importantly they finally have a run game that can be consistent and that takes so much pressure off the quarterback. I think it will click I just hope that they aren’t so far out of it [by the time it does]. Last year, they started 0-6 and it was a scramble and a fight and they almost got back into it. You never want to be in that situation. This weekend’s game is paramount for that very reason, 0-3 is very difficult to rebound from.”

To avoid that, the Giants will have to beat a Texans team that is 2-0 with J.J. Watt and company shutting down the paltry attacks provided by the Redskins and Raiders. Through two games, the Giants have not looked much better than either one of those teams. Eli Manning and his receivers have had difficulty communicating and even when there is an understanding, it has often led to dropped passes.

“We know what Eli is good at: taking those five-, seven-step drops and throwing those great passes down the field,” Barber said of his former teammate.

“That’s not what this offense under Ben McAdoo is predicated on. It’s about getting the ball out of your hands, a high completion percentage and let the receivers make plays. Reprogramming an 11-year veteran in Eli is hard. We saw in Week 1 that he and his receivers aren’t on the same page. It’s hard the way the offseason is structured now, but it’s also the fact that he has a completely new system and his receivers aren’t helping him with the drops.”

The adjustment process goes beyond the players. Tom Coughlin worked with Kevin Gilbride in Jacksonville and for his first 10 years as Giants coach before having to ax the coordinator after the offense bottomed out last year.

“Tom’s mostly the over-arching leader,” said Barber, who played three years under Coughlin before retiring.

“He tries to get everyone on the same page. But there is probably an adjustment period going on between Tom and coach McAdoo. With Kevin, who he knew forever, they were usually on the same page. With McAdoo, it’s completely different. It’s a West Coast system and he doesn’t know him and that adjustment is taking place, as well, in real time. It happens with repetition and experience, and they haven’t gotten to that point.”

I'm so happy Tiki is finally righting himself with the fans and the fans are receptive to him. They gave him a nice ovation before the game last week.

A GREAT Giant like that should never be on the outs like he was. Tiki made a mistake as an analyst and the fans made him pay for it.

Glad for that all to be in the past now. Love Tiki.
