Damontre Moore Ready To Show Giants He Can Compete For DE Spot Quote
Excerpt: " Damontre Moore enjoyed watching his former Texas A&M teammates continue to overtake the NFL Draft last weekend, but was also pleased with the Giants’ haul.
Defensive end was viewed as a position of need, but the team didn't use one of their seven picks to find one.
In part, it shows some faith in the second-year pass rusher, who has already put on half of his 15-pound offseason weight goal.
Moore was ready to welcome in the competition and knew it would make him better, but is ready to show the Giants his offseason improvements regardless.
"I look at it like, I'm never one of those guys that say 'I gotta do me,'" Moore said in Manhattan Friday, where he was helping prepare refurbished toys on behalf of the Second Chance Toys foundation. "I just want to put the team in the best position to win. And honestly, I like competition. It either brings out the best in you or it crumbles you.
"And me being the type of person that I am, I love true competition. So if we had drafted a d-end high, it wouldn't be nothing but motivation for me to work harder. Once the draft came and went, a few people talked to me about the Giants having confidence in me. Yes, I'm happy they have confidence in me, but at the end of the day, I know they'll bring in the best person to help us win."
Moore said his shoulder is at 95 percent right now, though he has yet to be cleared for contact.
He's adopted a more intense offseason weight training program and diet, and joked that he'd like to get that "Steve Weatherford body" where he could be featured on magazine covers.
"I just want to go out there – and if that's me starting, or whatever, that's great – and do my job. If that's on special teams, that's great, too. At the end of the day, my opportunity will come to me."
