Id bet my cadillac that if we had a sick middle linebacker who could stuff the run, our defense would be top 3. Tramon williams and sam shields with the emergence of micah hyde have the backfield locked. If they didnt worry about the run so much wed have more picks.

before rodgers went down, our run D was tops in the NFL. like top 6 because few teams actually committed to running on us due to the lead the offense would provide. hawk actually has been playing out of his mind the last season and a half. and our corners are decent but safety play is really lacking. hard to play a good zone scheme when there is little safety help. entire season we saw 2 things consistently: lack of consistent pass rush & balls being caught across the middle of the field. You can throw in missed tackles as the cherry upon the shit sandwich that is our defense.

i don't see a reincarnated ray lewis mitigating that kind of shitpile, sorry.

Its all perspective. When they were ranked in the top all u heard was aj hawk aj hawk aj hawk. Then as soon as shit hit the fan, u never heard his name. Hes a hell of a player, i just think he lacks true run stuffing explosion.

quite the opposite actually. as the only linebacker healthy throughout the entire season, you heard his name quite a bit. in fact, his last 2 seasons were the best he's had since his rookie year in 2006. and if you want to complain about run-stuffing, why not reference the player that was drafted for just that purpose: BJ Raji

Bj would be much more useful if they left him at nose tackle. I like hawk, its just my opinion we could use some fresh blood with good instincts and solid explosion at the position. Most of the runs against us were up the middle.... for 2 years str8.

i do agree with that. i don't like raji at the 3-position. with all the players that started games in 2013 on the chopping block, something is going to have to change within the next couple months. the draft will be defense-heavy as usual so we should see some more new faces, yet again

Just fucking gross:

A.J. Hawk, despite having a strong season with 71 tackles and four passes deflected, missed 13 tackles, according to Pro Football Focus, tied for the fifth most among inside linebackers in 2013.

Against the run, Hawk was 52nd out of 55 inside linebackers graded by Pro Football Focus.

Yeh, i saw it all year. I watched intently this season. I was disapointed by his inability to get off blocks and fill holes. Hes very smart and he works hard. But imo he needs to have better instincts and a tougher mentality. We need a guy who wants to hurt people.
