Blackmon, Robinson, Thomas, Evans, Shorts and xxxx will be the WRs this year. We now have the best WR Coach in the League, by FAR. He will coach these guys up. There's a reason the WR coach we had last year got fired before the season was even over. He was a joke. We had guys like Jarret Dillard, Chastin West and Taylor Price out there for us last season at WR. Our WR core will look completely different this year.
Lane, Chick, Morgan and Kampman were on IR (They're DEs). Kampman is w.e, he might be cut, Morgan is a Pass Rusher, Chick is a Pass Rusher, but he will probably start the year on the PUP list. Lane is 100% and admits he needs to improve in his Pass Rushing. His strength is against the Run. Mincey was resigned.
Cox, Middleton, Mathis all were on IR at CB. We signed Ross, still have Coleman and Rutland. Rutland will be in his 2nd year, showed flashes last year. Coleman is a solid slot/nickle Corner. Cox is a starter and Middleton is a solid back up who can play anywhere (left, right, or slot/nickle) and is a great Special Teamer. Ross and Mathis will battle for the other starting CB spot. Heath will be entering his 2nd year this season. Youboty will probably be cut.
Britton was on IR with a freak back infection after his surgery, Haslem was on IR, but they let him go. Resigned Whimper (he was the 3rd string RT, but had to start due to injuries. Can play either G and/or OT). Rackley will be entering his 2nd year. Resigned Will Robinson for depth (He was on IR last year as well I believe). Spitz is being groomed to eventually take over for Meester at Center. He can play C and G. Bradfield will be entering his 2nd year and can play either OT position.
Monroe is a top 10 LT. Rackley came from a small school and started to pick it up at the end of the season. He'll continue to be our starting LG. Meester can still play and will be the starting C. Nwaneri is a good RG and will continue to start there. Britton is rumored to be 100% healthy and should take back over at RT, where he was drafted at. Besides Whimper giving up a league high 15 sacks, our OL wasn't completely horrible. They had horrible times, but some of that was Gabbert and some was the shitty OC and some was bad OL play.
That is why depth is so important. He says "I would rather take a starter than a backup." Backups need to be high quality because guys will get injured, guys will be on IR and those backups will need to start. No team goes the year without injuries. That is why I think it is a little disingenuous to make the comment he did.
