Giants sign Josh Freeman

I always liked Freeman. I thought he would be a lot better especially two years ago when he got that new receiving corps but it never panned out. The coaching there is atrocious so I have to think that played in part in his development.

I think there is talent there. Maybe he can learn under Eli/Coughlin, raise his confidence/value and possibly become a starter in the NFL again somewhere down the line.

A change of scenery is exactly what he needed regardless if he turns his career around or not.

We played Freeman last season and embarrassed him so we obviously see something there with him to sign him, otherwise we would have went a different route.

That Freeman signing makes me quite uncomfortable considering Eli's surgery.

Why sign him, even for the minimum, when we just drafted Nassib...

You need at least 4 arms in camp

Freeman is still young and can be cut with the bat of an eyelash.

Gilbride calls report that Eli is in decline 'ludicrous'

Quote
“There's been no deterioration of his arm strength, there's been no lack of preparation and effort,” Kevin Gilbride said during an appearance on Pro Football Talk. “I think he's going to be fine as soon as they solidify the offensive line. They certainly made a move to do that by bringing in three interior offensive linemen and as soon as they get somebody that's going to be productive for them as an outside receiver -- Victor Cruz is terrific, but they need somebody that when they go match up, bump and run [and] go win for them.”

So, about the contention that some folks in the Giants front office feel Manning may never regain the form that helped the organization to two Super Bowls?

“I think that's, to be honest with you, ludicrous,” Gilbride continued. “I think he's going to be fine. ... He's going to throw the ball to the right person and he's going to throw it accurately.”

DT Kevin Williams Met With Giants Monday/Tuesday

Williams, who spent two days with the Giants, told The Star Tribune that he had “nothing really to report.” He then said by text message, “Had a good visit and gonna see what happens!”

Quote
According to Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Williams traveled to New York and had dinner with Giants’ defensive line coach Robert Nunn Monday night. Williams will meet with head coach Tom Coughlin and other team officials on Tuesday.

Minnesota has made several additions to their defensive line this offseason. The Vikings signed Corey Wooten, Linval Joseph and Tom Johnson in free agency, which left Minnesota willing to move on from Williams.

Williams says he wants to keep playing but is open to retirement if he doesn’t find anyone willing to sign him this offseason.

“I had a good visit [Monday night],” Williams said. “It’s different. That’s for sure. But I would like to keep playing, so we’ll see how it goes [Tuesday].”

Would be an EXCELLENT signing.... I've wanted this guy in Giants blue since forever now.... still has gas left in the tank. Would love to sign him for two years.

Was wondering why we weren't pursuing him or why it was taking so long.

Malcolm Jenkins takes shot at Giants O-line, says the Giants wont be able to protect Eli

Quote
Excerpt: "New Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins has officially entered the NFC East with a bang.

Speaking on the NFL Network, Jenkins threw a number of jabs at his new divisional rivals, with perhaps the harshest coming at New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

"I think the problem is he was sacked 39 times, a career high last year," Jenkins said. "If that continues, Eli’s best days are behind him. If they can protect him, then maybe, but it doesn’t look like it."

Jenkins, who signed a three-year, $16.25 million deal with the Eagles this offseason, has faced Manning three times in his career. The last time Manning played against Jenkins and the New Orleans Saints, the Giants quarterback threw for 259 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in a 52-27 win.

Can't wait to abuse this guy. Our O-line is going to be much improved which means trouble for defenses.

Just how injured was the Giants' offensive line last season?

Quote
A look at exactly how many starts Giants' offensive linemen missed last season.

During a very lively Twitter debate on Monday in the wake of the post discussing whether or not Eli Manning has begun to decline, former Giants' linebacker Carl Banks wondered which Giants' unit had undergone the most offseason surgeries the past three years.

Banks also tweeted that "so much focuses on the defensive talent the past few seasons few noticed the offense Limped out of training camp for 3yrs str8."

Unless Giants' team physician Dr. Russell Warren reads Big Blue View and feels like totaling the numbers for us, I don't think there is any way to get the answer to the offseason surgeries question.

What I can tell you is this. The Giants' original 2013  offensive line missed 31 starts last season (Chris Snee and David Baas 13 apiece, David Diehl 5). Throw in five missed starts for Jim Cordle after he replaced Baas, and one each for James Brewer and Brandon Mosley after they were inserted into the lineup and you have a staggering 38 missed starts from offensive linemen in 2013.

The Giants had only six missed starts from offensive linemen in 2012 and 12 in 2011.

After totaling data from Pro Football Reference I can't find a single 2013 playoff team that had as many as 20 missed starts from offensive linemen. The NFC East champion Philadelphia Eagles had the same starting offensive line for all 16 games -- not one missed start the entire season.

Blame Dallas Reynolds for Eli Manning's ankle injury in the season finale if you want. Reynolds did miss the block that led to the injury, but he was the Giants' fourth center and a guy who was on the street when the regular season began. He should not have even been playing.

That is why the Giants have been collecting offensive linemen in free agency, and why it would not be the least bit stunning to see at least two of the Giants' seven picks in the upcoming 2014 NFL Draft used on offensive linemen.

NFL.com thinks JPP is set for a comeback year

NFL.com thinks one Giants defensive player in particular is headed for a big season
With the Giants scheduled to report back to the facility on Monday, NFL.com thinks one player in particular is headed for a big season in 2014.

Marc Sessler recently named seven defensive players from around the league who are poised to have bounce-back campaigns, and Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul was one of them.

“After a whopping 16.5 sacks in 2011, a swarm of shoulder and back issues limited him to just 8.5 takedowns over the past two seasons,” Sessler wrote. “But with Justin Tuck off the grid, this is JPP's defense now. Assuming a clean bill of health, we expect Pierre-Paul to wreak havoc as one of the NFL's most complete ends. His closing speed is outrageous, and he's shown premier run-stuffing abilities. If he can stay on the field, look out.”

Two years removed from his breakout in the Giants’ 2011 Super Bowl run, the fifth-year pro played in 11 games with six starts last season, recording career lows in sacks (2.0) and tackles (27).

Also listed among Sessler’s “bounce-back candidates” were OLB Von Miller (Broncos), DE DeMarcus Ware (Broncos), DT Henry Melton (Cowboys), ILB Brian Cushing (Texans), OLB Paul Kruger (Browns), and OLB Clay Matthews (Packers).
