Giants have resigned DT Mike Patterson

New York Giants þ@Giants · now
The Giants have re-signed DT Mike Patterson and signed Free Agent CB Zack Bowman.

Good depth signing... was wondering why it was taking so long to bring him back. Would have liked to sign Kevin Williams for 1-2 years but Patterson is very solid.

Giants sign OT Charles Brown

Quote
The New Orleans Saints have 13 players scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on March 11, plus the three players they released last week. Here's a breakdown on offensive tackle Charles Brown:

Brown
Position: backup OT
Age: 26
Height: 6-5
Weight: 297

Scouting report: Brown's first season as the Saints' starting left tackle ended in ugly fashion. He was benched during the middle of a bad game against the St. Louis Rams and All-Pro pass-rusher Robert Quinn in Week 15. Then he never returned to the lineup after that, as rookie Terron Armstead took over the job.

Up until that point, Brown had been doing a decent job in the role -- some ups and downs, certainly, but nothing to the level of that Rams game. For the season, Brown was credited with either seven or eight sacks allowed (depending on the stat service). And he was flagged for a total of 10 holding or illegal use of hands penalties.

Brown, an athletic lineman who has added some bulk over the years, was a second-round draft pick out of USC in 2010. His first three seasons as a backup were plagued by a variety of injuries -- mostly unrelated. But he stayed healthy last season when he finally got a crack at the starting job, which was a good sign for his future options.

Projection: I think it's safe to assume that Brown will sign elsewhere this offseason, as he will probably want a change of scenery and an opportunity to win a starting job elsewhere. And I think other teams will be interested in his potential since he's still young and has some starting experience under his belt.

Brown probably won't be signed as an immediate starter somewhere else since he'll have to rehab his reputation a little bit in summer camps and the preseason. But I could definitely see him resurrecting his career if he finds the right situation.

Good depth behind Pugh/Beatty this way if one of them gets hurt no one has to play out of position

Robert Ayers: 6 Things To Know About The New Giants' DE

The New Jersey native -- born and raised in Jersey City -- gets a new start in an old setting. Ayers is a former first-round pick of the Denver Broncos. Now, he's in part Justin Tuck's replacement (even taking his number) with the Giants.

Here's more on the newest Giants player:

1. Ayers has played a game at the Meadowlands Sports Complex. As a freshman at Hoboken High, he was part of the Red Wings' 27-7 state championship victory over Wayne Hills at the old Giants Stadium. Ayers soon transferred to Marlboro County High School in South Carolina.

2. Ayers received a +11.1 grade from Pro Football Focus against the run last season. That was good for ninth-best in the NFL among 4-3 defensive ends. Former Giants DE Justin Tuck finished eighth with a +11.7 grade. The strong performance against the run was nothing new for Ayers. He's received a positive PFF grade against the run every year of his career.

3. Durability has not been a concern for Ayers early in his career. He played in 72 of a possible 80 regular-season games in his five seasons with the Broncos. Only once (2010) did he miss more than one game in a season. That was because of a foot injury midway through his second year.

4. Ayers had a breakout senior year at the University of Tennessee -- after three non-descript seasons that included a suspension for an assault charge, He was named All-SEC first-team with 15.5 tackles for a loss that season. It propelled him into the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. The knock on Ayers has long been his explosion and straight-line speed, even though he ran a respectable 4.90 in the 40-yard dash at the Combine. It may help to explain 12.0 career sacks.

5. Ayers' father, Robert Sr., died from heart failure in November 2012. He was a New Jersey Transit bus driver for 16 years. Ayers Jr. said during media day for the Super Bowl that every bus driver in Northern N.J. knew him because Robert Sr.'s favorite topic was his son's football career.

6. He's an impressionist, of sorts. The former Broncos defensive end does a mean Philip Rivers impersonation. Looks just like him.

I wish he was out of the NFC East because he kills us on returns. He's dangerous but we've always handled him in the receiving game.

It is what it is.

Garcon & Djax are a dangerous tandem.... and we will shut them down

Giants Sign Tight End Kellen Davis http://wp.me/p2jl6l-228

The Giants announce the Davis signing. They also announce they have signed WR Travis Harvey.

Davis is a Great blocker, that will be his main duty... not much of a receiver

I know nothing about Harvey... most likely camp competition
