You just hit the nail on the head. So much miscommunication. I saw one snap today where the secondary were still motioning at eachother and looked confused right up til Cam snapped the ball. Its not like we have bad players back there, far from it, just need to start playing like a unit.

Just weird with how disciplined we usually are. I don't think I've ever seen us look this fucking lost in the entire time I've watched football. It's just fucking weird. I still believe we can get back on track, but we have a ton of work to do.

FOXBORO -- The Patriots defense was exposed once again in the Patriots' 33-30 loss to the Panthers Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
The unit allowed five plays of 20 or more yards and the biggest issue with these plays were communication breakdowns in the secondary. Stephon Gilmore was involved in a few of these plays, and he took responsibility afterwards.
“Communication. Have to get better on the communication," he said. "I have to get better on communication."
Not only was he involved in some of the big plays, he also committed two crucial penalties. One of the biggest came on the Panthers' game-winning field goal drive when Deatrich Wise sacked Cam Newton on third down, but an illegal hands to the face penalty against Gilmore gave the Panthers a first down.
"I was playing aggressive. Don't know what else I can do," he said.
Gilmore, who was signed to a five-year, $65 million contract in the offseason, knows he has to be better.
"It's frustrating when it's communication, when it's not really ability," he said. "I have to get better at the communication part."
Added Gilmore: "It'll take time. We know what we got to do. Like I said, we just got to do it ad it was our fault. Tomorrow, we're going to go in there and fix it."
The former Bills cornerback said getting better starts with him getting on the same page as the rest of the secondary. Through four games it hasn't been the best start for Gilmore, but he did acknowledge he is getting better at a few things.
“Getting better at some things," he said. "Still learning. Have to do better. Communication.”
It is worth noting Gilmore didn't start the second half in favor of Eric Rowe, but then Rowe injured his groin on the play and didn't return. It will be worth seeing what type of role Gilmore has Thursday night in Tampa Bay and how he responds to his poor play on Sunday.
