While Demps regular position is at free safety, he was signed by the Giants for his return skills. In 2013, Demps had 33 returns for 30.1 average and had one touchdown; he has two career touchdowns in his six-year career that started back in 2008 when he was a fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles.
As a safety, Demps played in all 16 games last season for Kansas City and started in six of them and had four interceptions to go along with 36 tackles and 10 pass deflections. The six starts were not only the most of his career, but the only starts of his career, as he spent his first five seasons solely as a backup.
After spending two seasons in Philadelphia, Demps played two seasons with the Houston Texans and also played a season with the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League in 2010 following being waived by the Eagles in September of 2010.
With the departure of Ryan Mundy in free agency, Demps provides solid depth behind starters Antrel Rolle, Stevie Brown and Will Hill; with Brown coming off an ACL injury that cost him the entire 2013 year and if Hill gets punished by the NFL again, Demps ends up being insurance at safety, but more importantly, the Giants have finally made a move to improve their special teams to add an experienced kick returner.
