I don't care if the Texans had Joe Montana in his prime at quarterback. If we go into 2014 with the same shit defense we're not going to be any better than 5-11 or 6-10. Give me a small 5'11 quarterback in the third round like Russell Wilson. I'll show you a Super Bowl team within a few years if we can have a dominating defense again like we had in 2011. It just sucks Mario Williams went down with a torn pectoral muscle.

But ya exactly what wraith just said....do you know how many 3rd round QBs turn out to be good rather than bad.....Very awful ratio. Just because Wilson was there before doesn't mean every draft a 3rd round QB is the answer...it happens rarely

I agree but what I'm saying is even with Case Keenum at quarterback we could have won a lot of those games last season if our defense or run game were any good. Once Foster was done for the season we had Ben Tate starting at running back with broken ribs. He was horrible and had one game where he rushed for one yard on seven carries against the Jaguars (0.1 yards per rush, LOL).

Our quarterback play was awful in 2013 and there is no denying that, especially when Matt Schaub was struggling so badly and throwing too many pick six's to count, but Case Keenum gave the team a little boost but we still lost games we should have won. If you give the Texans a healthy Arian Foster, Brian Cushing and Jadeveon Clowney that's a team that isn't going to go 2-14 in 2014. That's for sure. And I don't care who the quarterback on that team is.

That is true I agree with you, and what teams like the 49ers and Seahawks did was build their defense before going out and getting their QB. So I think Clowney would be the best option as well

I really hope we draft Clowney. And I hope we switch back to a 4-3 defense and play him at DE. We don't have the linebackers to run a good 3-4 anymore.

Romeo Crennel has experience coaching both a 4-3 and 3-4 defense but I think he will play a 3-4 defense with the Texans. Bill O'Brien didn't seem to care which base defense the Texans used because he said in today's NFL a lot of teams are going to play nickel and dime the majority of the time.

To me it's all about having a great pass rush and improving our front seven. You're right about the Texans being very thin at linebacker especially when Brian Cushing hasn't stayed healthy for the past two years. "I could play in a 3-4 or a 4-3," Clowney said. " Anything they ask me to do I will do." We'll see what happens. May 8 is so far away it's driving me crazy.

All I know for certainty is that 32 team sacks (third worst in NFL), 276 points allowed (second worst in the NFL) and 11 turnovers forced (worst in the NFL) isn't good enough. The Houston Texans defense has room to improve dramatically in the important areas. We can't win many games playing defense like we did in 2013. That's a big reason why we went 2-14. Yeah, bad quarterback play also but like I said, we lost seven straight games by one score with Case Keenum starting and without a running game to lean on. We still had chances to win those game but our defense was pathetic.

Needless to say the Texans were -20 and dead last in the NFL in turnover differential in 2013.

Exactly right. I even told draino about that. Zach Mettenberger or Aaron Murray would be worth taking a chance on in the later rounds. Both are coming off ACL injuries and probably won't be 100 % until the 2015 season. But they could be drafted and learning as a rookie in 2014. I don't believe the Texans want to start a rookie quarterback anyways. They're going to groom whichever quarterback they draft. The starting QB for the Texans during Week 1 of 2014 will probably be a veteran.

Not sure what I'd hate more, drafting Zach with our 3rd round pick, or drafting Bortles with our #1.

If there is anything I learned about Hako he argues just to argue....I remember 2 years ago when he tried to argue with me about how Gabbart was going to be a good QB

I agree with you the Texans are much mroe likely to make a turn around than the Jags who haven't been a legitiment threat in the last decade

Now I agree that Gabbart guy is garbage. However that Gabbert guy, well last I checked his career is still unwritten.

Oops! I was looking at our points scored not points given up. It was actually 428 points allowed and 26.8 points per game given up. That was still pretty bad and ranked 25th in the NFL (eighth worst). Just atrocious defensive numbers. Yes, our defense was in the top 10 all season and ranked 7th best in the NFL by the end of the season but all of that is deceiving and only based on yardage.

The Texans offense and defense ranks very highly based on yardage but points per game?
Second worst offense in the NFL and eighth worst defense in the NFL last season. Not good.

Our defense was actually ranked number one for a long time. Up until Week 12 but like I said, very deceiving...
It fell down all the way to seven after Tom Brady, Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning threw a ton of yards on us.

I was going to start doing this 33 days before the draft

Figured the closer, the more accurate

Reported. Thanks for helping me make jsp a safer place!

I'm going to try and squeeze in 2 rounds this year. :)

Randy, only two rounds? At least do four rounds. Those are usually the most important.
