Report: David Wilson rehab going "very well"

Quote
A source close to the situation told ESPN Giants reporter Dan Graziano that David Wilson's neck surgery is going "very well," and Wilson has already begun weightlifting and working out.
The source told Graziano there's "no reason to believe (Wilson) won't be playing" in 2014. Still just 22 years old, Wilson underwent "fusion of the vertebrae" to repair his herniated disc on January 16. The Giants are still likely to approach their offseason as if anything Wilson provides in 2014 will be a bonus. Re-signing free agent Andre Brown may be GM Jerry Reese's first order of business. Brown won't be expensive to keep.

New York Giants' Potential Free-Agent Target: Ted Ginn, WR, Carolina Panthers

Quote
Ted Ginn is the subject today as we continue to look at potential free-agent targets for the New York Giants.

When the New York Giants approach rebuilding their roster for the 2014 season, finding a player or players who can add some big-play ability to the Giants' inadequate kick return game should be a priority.

One such player might be Carolina Panthers' free-agent wide receiver/kick returner Ted Ginn.

The Giants were 27th in the league in kickoff returns in 2013, averaging 21.2 yards per return. They were 26th in the league in punt returns, averaging only 7.2 yards per return.

Ginn, the 2007 first-round pick by the Miami Dolphins, had an excellent 2013 season. He returned 26 punts for an average 12.2 yards per return, and averaged 23.8 yards on 25 kickoff returns. For his career, the soon-to-be 29-year-old averages 11.2 yards on punt return and 23.3 yards on kickoff returns.

Ginn is not a top-notch receiver, but his 36 catches in 2013 were his best since he caught 38 for the Dolphins in 2009. He averaged 15.4 yards per catch.

Ginn would not really be a replacement for Hakeem Nicks, should Nicks bolt the Giants in free agency. Look at him, however, as a replacement on the roster for the unproductive Louis Murphy (six catches in 2013) and Ginn would provide an upgrade. Signing Ginn would seem to be a move that would not require any sort of rich, long-term deal.

Would LOVE him for cheap.... mostly a returner but can utilize his speed in the backfield as well.... would definitely be an upgrade as a #4 receiver

Would rather have McCluster personally but Id take Ginn if the price is right

NFL Key Dates: Important deadlines for Giants this offseason

The most important offseason in recent Giants history is just getting started. Some moves (coaching changes) have been made, but the major reconstruction (aka, the roster overhaul) is about to gain full steam.

So get ready. Here's when things will start going down.

February 17 – First day for clubs to designate Franchise or Transition Players
The Giants have the option (albeit at a hefty price) of handcuffing some of their top impending free agents to the organization.

February 19-25 – NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis
General manager Jerry Reese and Co. can’t afford another sub-par NFL Draft. The Combine, where most of the top players will showcase their athletic ability and skills, will be key for their evaluations.

March 3 – Deadline for clubs to designate Franchise or Transition Players at 4 pm (ET)
Last chance to make sure Justin Tuck, Linval Joseph, Jon Beason, Hakeem Nicks or others don’t leave.

March 8 – Clubs are permitted to contact, and enter into contract negotiations with, the certified agents of players who will become unrestricted free agents upon the expiration of their 2013 player contracts at 4 pm (ET) on March 11. However, a contract cannot be executed with a new club until 4 pm (ET) on March 11.
For all intents and purposes, this is the beginning of free agency. The Giants can get the players they targeted.

March 11 – Clubs must submit qualifying offers to their restricted free agents with expiring contracts and to whom they desire to retain a right of first refusal by 4 pm (ET).
Linebackers Spencer Paysinger and Mark Herzlich, offensive lineman Jim Cordle and fullback Henry Hynoski all fall into this category.

March 11 – All clubs must be under the 2014 salary cap prior to 4 pm (ET)
This won’t be a problem for the Giants. They’re already under.

March 11 – All 2013 player contracts expire at 4 pm (ET)
The Giants’ 21 unrestricted free agents (not counting the recently retired Brandon Jacobs and David Diehl) hit the market.

March 11 – Trading period for 2014 begins at 4 pm (ET)
Anyone have stud offensive linemen they want to move?

March 23-26 – Annual league meetings (Owners’ Meetings) in Orlando
New rules and other key topics to be hashed out.

April 7 – Clubs that hired a new head coach after the end of the 2013 regular season may begin offseason workout programs
Not applicable to the Giants even though they hired a new offensive coordinator (Ben McAdoo) this offseason.

April 21 – Clubs with returning head coaches may begin offseason workout programs
Time to get to work with the players on this new offense.

May 2 – Deadline for restricted free agents to sign offer sheets
It’s unlikely Paysinger, Herzlich, Hynoski or Cordle will get anywhere near this deadline. None have the negotiating power.

May 8-10 – 2014 NFL Draft in New York City
A very important NFL Draft for the Giants.

May 19-21 – NFL Spring league meeting in Atlanta
More key NFL issues to be discussed.

July 15 - Deadline for any club that designated a Franchise Player to sign such player to a multi-year contract or extension. After this date, the player may sign only a one- year contract with his prior club for the 2014 season, and such contract cannot be extended until after the club’s last regular season game.
If the Giants franchise anyone, they’ll need to secure their future by mid-July, otherwise they’ll become an unrestricted free agent next year.

September 4, 7-8 – Kickoff Weekend; NFL season begins
Let the rebound season begin!

New York Giants CB Prince Amukamara Discusses Calvin Johnson, Eli Manning, Influences in NFL

Quote
The secondary of the New York Giants may be in for a bit of a make-shift in 2014, as Corey Webster had his contract voided and will not return to the team and Aaron Ross, Terrell Thomas and Stevie Brown are all free agents and their whereabouts for next season are unknown.

With that said, one of the holdovers from last season who has not only turned into a fine football player and the best cornerback on the team, but perhaps a fine role model for young people all over to look up to is Prince Amukamara, who once referred to himself as "the Black Tim Tebow" for his lifestyle of no drinking, drugs and taking proper care of himself; something that at times is not a practice of many NFL players around the league.

The former first round pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, who once got the injury prone label for missing time in his first two NFL seasons, has now gone from being someone many fans wondered if he would even get onto the field into a potential shutdown corner for the Giants as he continues to get better each season and in each game that he sees the opponents top receiver.

This past week, Amukamara sat down with Alexis Celluro of NY Giants Rush in an exclusive interview to talk many different things from his lifestyle, covering Calvin Johnson, Eli Manning and his practical joke ability, the influences he's had in the NFL, among other things.

Amukamara on who the toughest receiver in the NFL he has had to cover?

"Calvin Johnson, because of his size! He’s like the Lebron James of football. He’s big and he can run, it’s almost impossible to stop him."

Amukamara on who the biggest practical joker on the team has been?

"Eli hands down! Well, I’m sure most people have seen Eli on SNL and he’s definitely showed his sense of humor there. I can’t really share locker room talk, but one thing he did was I came back to my phone and it was all Chinese."

Amukamara on who has been an influence on him in the NFL since coming in as a rookie in 2011?

    "Corey Webster and Terrell Thomas."

Amukamara on what part of his game he needs to work on for 2014?

"Catching the ball! I dropped so many picks!"

Amukamara on his lifestyle of no drinking, no drugs and no fast food and how he keeps up with it in today's league?

"It actually has stayed the same. Just no fast food or soda and since I’m married I love eating my wife’s food. So I rarely eat out now."

Amukamara on other people outside of the NFL that he's tried to emulate?

"Never tried to be anyone. I was a fan of wrestlers like Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock though."

Inside look at Cruz and Tuck's workout

I hope we can resign Tuck for cheap.... won't be impossible to replace but he's a solid player for us. Really came on towards the latter part of the season.

Reese and Ross personally scouted Ebron

Quote
The Giants are so intrigued by Ebron (6-4, 250 pounds) that general manager Jerry Reese and vice president of player evaluation Marc Ross scouted him during the season and filed reports. The team's top two decision makers don't do that unless there's a high degree of interest in a player. Ebron scored high grades and will be a consideration with the 12th pick.

Giants have Ebron high in their sights both Jerry Reese and Marc Ross scouted him personally.... could be the pick at 12

Have to say that really really intrigues me.... FINALLY going after a stud TE after average to mediocre TE's for the last decade.

Ebron could be another Vernon Davis... plus he's a Giants fan... bring the kid home!!!

Mayock is hands down the best draft guru there is... he was the only one who had us taking Justin Pugh last year.

Interesting.. I thought we would go with Lewan for sure but TE instead of OT first pick could work out well for us.
