What do you guys think about Kiffin possibly switching our defense to the Tampa 2. I can't decide how I feel about it...we have the athletic MLB in Sean Lee (or Bruce Carter) that the scheme is built around, but our corners are good in man coverage (which isn't that beneficial in Tampa 2). Matt Johnson can really lay the wood, so he'd be a perfect hard-hitting safety for that scheme...
They are definitely switching to the Tampa 2. Lee will be in the middle and Carter will be weakside OLB. I think the majority of the defense will be fine, however, one major part may have issues. The defensive line will most likely be the weakest part (If all of the young safeties pan out). I can't help but think the the interior D-line is going to have issues. You will have Ratliff most likely at the one technique (Unless Josh Brent somehow comes back), which wouldn't have been too bad about five years ago but Ratliff is prone to injury and isn't the same player he was back then. Also, It's looking like they're going to play someone like Hatcher at the three technique which I see as an even bigger problem due to the fact that he is not the type of player ( and doesn't want to be) that plays just about every snap. Outside of the interior D-line, Both safety positions are a huge question mark. It seems to me that they brought in Will Allen because he knows the scheme very well and can come in and play on day one. The problem is that he isn't any better than Gerald Sensabaugh, and with that you have two safeties who haven't played a single down in the NFL (Wilcox, and Johnson) and one that hasn't played a significant amount of time in Church.
Well, if you want to look on the bright side, if this season doesn't pan out Dallas may be in contention for Jadeveon Clowney next year haha.
