I never knew how much white ppl cared about politics, and how retarded a 2 party system is

Then again most people are too simple to have more than 2 choices

I remember in high school, some town hall employees came to the cafe so seniors could register to vote.

When it was my turn, I asked to register as an independent. The lady told me that I had to choose a party, Dem or Rep... I was like, no bitch, I want to register as an independent. She started to lecture me about how important it was to be politically affiliated, so I just walked away mid-talk and got back in line to go to someone else. They did the same thing.

Being a punk ass highschooler with nothing else to do, I made a huge scene and said that I was being denied my constitutional right to vote (I had just taken a civics class so all of the terms were fresh in my mind).

Don't really remember what happened, but I'm a registered voter as an independent today.

Kind of blows my mind how people blindly vote because of red or blue.

/e I think this is also why I've never been selected for jury duty. Although I have no clue.

I've never registered to vote or voted and I've been summoned for jury duty once. Never made a jury though. I was almost there and then they asked if I was known as a stubborn person. I said depends on the topic and the defense attorney said I was dismissed lol

I like jury duty tbh. I sat on a jury the only time I was summoned and I thought it was really interesting. I'm not sure why so many people hate it or attempt to get out of it.

Up until this last one it wasn't necessary. It was Obama by a landslide in both the big ones and I live in a rural area so there's 0 chance anyone but a republican gets voted in around here.

I wasn't trying to get out of it though. How would it not be a good time to sit there and judge people?

The two party system sounds stupid, since obviously voters have more gradations than a two-party system can accommodate.

But then you hear about the clusterfuck of competing parties in other countries (like GB) and realize there's some advantages. Part of the problem with having several parties is that none of them control enough votes to get anything done/pass any serious legislation. So what winds up happening is the larger centrist parties have to somewhat placate the extremist parties just to get enough votes to do something. Then you have to actually negotiate with racist/fascist parties, which grants them legitimacy and furthers their causes.

For a comparison, it'd be like Republicans and Dems having to take seriously a party composed of synagogue shooters and MAGA-bombers. A two-party system has the benefit of making such extreme parties virtually powerless.

Get out of here with your logic and facts, too nuanced for posters talking politics in here.

Really ranked-choice voting—especially for primary elections—is what should be implemented first. I don't think America will ever realistically eliminate the 2-party system. Oh, and have actual primary elections, not just caucuses.
