Interesting. Where do you get the phasing from though. Like if my house is only fed a C phase drop does it get rephased at the panel? Or the meter?

C phase is only used in commercial 99.9% of the time. So there is "Single Phase" (A and B phases) and then there is "Three Phase" (A, B, and C phases). The phases come from the the transformer closest to your house thats feeding it. You will have a line either overhead or underground going into your meter, and it'll be 3 wires. 2 of them (usually 4/0 Alum) will be your actual power phases A and B. The 3rd will most likely be a 2/0 derated alum which will be your neutral. These then connect to your main panel. From your panel if we you were to take the cover off, you'll see 2 main lugs either top or bottom (depends on how they mounted the panel) with the 2 power conductors, and the neutral conductor will be connected to a lug off to the side. Also if you look at the where the bus bars in the center of the panel where the breakers go, you'll see there are 2 columns and X rows (depends on size of panel). Each row is the the opposite phase, so essentially they number them like this :

1 2 - A phase
3 4 - B phase
5 6 - A phase
7 8 - B phase

This is why when something requires 240 volt that the breaker takes up 2 slots, its to get both phases. If you were to use a breaker on space 1 and space 5, you would only be getting 120 volts.

The phasing itself is technically from the power company having sent you 2 different phases to your panel, I think I just kinda rambled here my bad lol

I do distribution design and break out c phase to go to parts of subdivisions all the time, but I see what you were saying, 120/240 drop would be A B N. I normally don't get to learn too much about what happens after I get it to the meter.

Ahh well right on :P so they will sometimes drop an A or B and you replace with a C? Or are you adding C to both others? Commercial uses the high voltage, low amperage because its more efficient for motors etc but there aren't a ton of houses (at least in my area) using 3phase unless we do an elevator but even then its just a converter

I didn't say move here

That, lol no, worth visiting in the warm seasons though

It was just a joke tbh.

Thought you'd read it and assume I was asking why would I... "want a 500hp car," and then hit you with the misdirection "go to the midwest" instead.

Yeah but if you look at your panel, there are single pole and double pole breakers, the 2P breakers are all 240 volt, using both phases A and B, the singles are all 120 volt, using just 1 phase (A or B )

Basically you'd buy the charger or get it from tesla or whatever, find out what amperage you want to run, get appropriate wire/breaker size, punch a knockout in bottom of panel, fish wire down, connect it to charger, connect other end to a breaker, install breaker w/ neutral and ground into panel and done

it sounds a lot harder than it really is, if you can youtube it I would also consider doing that depending on the stupid prices someone might try to kill you with

It would not be possible for me physically to run a wire from the garage to the circuit breaker box myself, which it sounds like I would have to do. Electricity scares me anyway, so I'd sooner have someone else do it anyway.

On the plus side, it sounds like something a non-certified electrician could do.

Judging by your sig you're just some wanker who foams at the mouth watching firefighters work.

stop disrespecting them and trying to say you're one of them

And your sig looks like they’re gargling some cocks lol

Well where is your panel located? Usually its in garages, so I assumed lol

And you can't park your tesla in there? ;)

Yeah you might have to have someone to run it for you
