Depends on how you go about it. In the states it's a pretty big racket, but there are ways to get through some schools without going too far into debt. As long as you're flexible on what you're willing to do or you have a profitable career path in mind before starting, it's easy enough to pick a path with high availability and middle-class + starting wages.

The idea that everyone needs to go to college and you're a failure if you don't, is the scam. Half the time kids don't know what the fuck they're doing or why they're there. They end up like a buddy of mine who took a lot of photography and literature classes because they seemed interesting at the time and now his bachelors isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
