It's not about getting them elected. It's about them getting a large enough % of the vote to be included in the election games.

Yeah, you have to participate in the primary election, iirc. That's pretty huge for 3rd party candidates.

Waiting for everyone else to vote for an independent or 3rd party candidate (or any small name) before you do is just not how it works. Votes beget votes. Especially true in the primary.

/Even if the goal is not to win, gaining recognition and earning a piece of the platform might help future independents and 3rd party candidates.

The distal, macro-level goal is to win. But all macro-level goals are composed of many proximal goals. In this case: vote in the primary, gain a presence at debates, gain funding, earn a recognizable portion of the final votes, lose respectably, and then try again next election by starting closer to your end-goal than before.

/And even if you're just hoping to abide by the 2-party system, vote in the primary for a better R/D candidate. Not enough people value the importance of picking the candidates who appear on the ballot.

I voted in 10 mins. I waited longer to pick my food up after that I got 10% off of due to my cool sticker. Worth it.
