Levy ruled out, "possible internal damage" that may require surgery. Looks like he may be out for quite a while
I hope this is wrong. He's our main man.
LIONS INSIDER: Levy dealing with hip injury
Posted 2 hours ago
The Lions released their first practice report of the season Wednesday.
We finally know what’s ailing linebacker DeAndre Levy.
After weeks of writing about an “undisclosed” injury keeping the All-Pro linebacker out of practice, the first injury report of the season lists Levy as dealing with a hip injury.
He hasn’t practiced the last two weeks and his status for Sunday’s opener in San Diego is uncertain at this point. The Lions kept seven linebackers on their 53-man roster knowing Levy’s injury could cost him some time.
Levy led the Lions with 151 tackles and the NFL with 117 solo tackles last season. He recorded at least 10 tackles in 11 games for Detroit’s second-ranked defense a year ago.
If he’s unable to play Sunday, expect veteran Josh Bynes to start in his place.
Also sitting out practice Wednesday were guard Larry Warford and defensive tackle Caraun Reid, both are dealing with high ankle sprains. Both were running off to the side of practice, but their availability for Sunday is also uncertain at this point.
Tight end Eric Ebron (ankle), tackle LaAdrian Waddle (elbow) and linebacker Tahir Whitehead (elbow) were list as limited participants in practice.
This appears to be a new injury for Waddle, who's trying to come back from offseason ACL surgery.
The Lions will release game designation at 4 p.m. Friday on detroitlions.com.
