Guess we're doing top 10s lol. I'm going to break this into single-player and multiplayer, since it's not fair to compare the two imo.
These are in no particular order.
Final Fantasy Series - Too many great games and I don't want giving 3+ spots to one franchise. I'm a basic bitch and 7 was my favorite, but 1 holds a special place in my heart, 5, 6, 4 and tactics all are up there for me too, but 7 takes the cake. Also liked 8 and 9, but they were inferior to the previously mentioned ones. 10 was amazing as well.
God of War - The original ones were lackluster, good hack and slash games, but they took an average of like 4 hours to beat. This latest one brought life to the franchise and holy shit was it good.
The Legend of Zelda - First game I played I think. I've put countless hours into this game and it's just too damn good.
Breath of the Wild - Gotta throw one more Zelda game in there, everyone goes Ocarina of Time, but I personally believe BotW is a much better game. I didn't do "series" for Zelda because I disliked a lot of the other ones I have played, and because I didn't own a Cube, Wii, or Wii U, I don't think I can fairly assess the entire series, so I added my two favorites separately.
Kingdom Hearts series - Got into this one late, didn't think I'd care for it all that much, but the classic end-game content that I love sooo much from the 2000s made me fall in love with this series. I'm excited for the newest one in January.
Metal Gear Solid Series - Holy shit did the first one blow me away when I was a kid. Fuck it, I'm ordering this online right now so I can play it.
Elder Scrolls Series- Morrowind is hands down the best of the series, but they're all fucking amazing.
Resident Evil Series - This game scared the piss out of me as a kid. I wasn't a fan of 3 and kinda thought the franchise was going to die off, but then 4 and 5 were both amazing. People hated 6 but I also thought it was enjoyable, it was just a bitch. 7 again was amazing, but people pissed off that it was more of an original story, which is a dumb thing to complain about.
Star Wars : Knights of the old Republic - REVAN!!!! Such an easy and tedious game, but who gives a shit, it was amazing. I had a lot of fun replaying this game doing light/dark and neutral playthroughs. Sooo much fun.
Super Mario Series - Super Mario World, Mario 64, the original trilogy, even the new one is stupidly good and I've had a blast playing it with my son.
Super Smash Bros 64 - Hands down the best 4 player versus game in the world growing up. FPS games are amazing ofc, but this fucking game made people rage so hard.
Halo Series - I'd have to throw 1/2 and 3 on here, so I'll just list the whole series.
Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction - Duh
Counter Strike - This fucking FPS made me rethink everything about my natural ability with games. I was straight ass at 1.6 and I put countless hours to get *good* at it. Insanely good game
Starcraft, BW + SC2 & Expacs - A lot of people say BW is hands down better than SC2 and the expansions, but I think it's pretty fucking close. Both were perfect for when they came out and RTS games still make every other fucking competitive game in the world look like child's play.
Black Ops II - Easily the best CoD imo, comp scene was amazing, ranked play gave me the opportunity to match against Scumpy/Nadeshot and other bros multiple times and I fucking loved this game.
Mario Kart - So many late nights with friends as a kid and even a few drug fueled ones in the past decade as an adult lol.
Mario Party - Same as the above
007 Goldeneye - Another game where me and 5+ friends would sit around all weekend playing and having the loser switch out. No oddjob
Warcraft 3 - The game that made me fall in love with tower defenses,
