The Detroit Lions have added some help to their cornerback unit in the form of veteran Josh Wilson, who signed a one-year deal with the team Friday.
Wilson, 30, is entering his ninth year in the NFL. He’s played in 118 career games with 85 starts.
Originally a second round pick (55th overall) of the Seattle Seahawks in 2007, Wilson (5-9, 188) has also spent time with Baltimore, Washington and most recently Atlanta.
He played in all 16 games for the Falcons last year with four starts.
In 2013, as a full-time starter in Washington, Wilson posted a career-high 93 tackles, along with two sacks, two forced fumbles, one interception and seven defended passes.
He has 427 career tackles, 78 defended passes and 15 interceptions over the span of eight seasons in the league. He also returned kicks early in his career, and has a 24.7 average on those returns.
Wilson joins a Lions cornerback group that also includes: Darius Slay, Rashean Mathis, Bill Bentley, Nevin Lawson, Mohammed Seisay and Crezdon Butler.
Lions vice president of pro personal Sheldon White said recently at a Town Hall Meeting for season ticket holders that the team would get involved in the second wave of free agency.
“We’re trying to find guys who selectively fit our profile, fit what the coaches need,” White said.
