Didn't help that ponders top wideouts were Jerome simpson and Jenkins after percy got hurt.

I don't think you'd have to worry about Cassel's performance (or about Ponders performance for that matter). WIth that receiver corps all they need is 3 plays: AP left, AP right, AP down the middle.
