Jawanza Sterling, BTW, was with the Texans this summer. Again, he's the new PS player.

A USC product... not bad. He's coming from a pro-style defense, maybe the kid can learn the game while with us.

6'1 ... 202lbs - The kid had the second fastest 60-yard shuttle time for all DB's at the combine with 11.62 seconds. He also was 2nd in the 3-Cone Drill with a time of 6.68 seconds. These numbers show nice agility and quickness. Straight line speed is not one of his strengths, he posted a 4.64 40 time which is on par for a cover safety.

From the workout numbers he reminds me of a Webster/Thomas prospect. Big, not too fast but shows tremendous quickness in a small area. I'm hearing it was a numbers game in Houston that got him released, hopefully he can catch on here with us.

Here's the NFL Draft Profile on the kid::

As a standout defensive back at Lincoln High in Tallahassee, Florida, Starling’s high school honors included: Sporting News Top 100, Super Prep All-American, Prep Star All-American, Super Prep All-Dixie and Prep Star All-Southeast. He made 50 tackles in 2008, after a junior season that included 98 tackles, 10 tackles for losses, five forced fumbles and two interceptions. He also played baseball at Lincoln.

Starling saw limited action as a backup free safety and played on special teams as a first-year freshman in 2009. The following year, Starling started USC's first nine games at strong safety as a sophomore in 2010, until his season ended via a strained hamstring. In those nine games, he had 37 tackles, an interception and a pass defended. He also played on the baseball team, and appeared in nine games. In 2011, he started 11 games, and missed one due to an injury. He recorded 48 tackles (3.5 for loss) and two pass deflections. In his senior year, he had 42 tackles, three interceptions and four pass breakups.

i think its stupid we kept painter over carr, we've seen what painter can do as a starter and carr has been a very serviceable backup

This is what I've been saying. I know Painter probably outplayed Carr during the preseason, but it doesn't change the fact that Carr is very capable. He's been in our system for a long time now and Painter stinks. If Eli goes down we won't win a game BECAUSE of Painter. If Carr was our backup he would give the team a chance to win.

Let's be honest if Eli ever wet down our season would be over.

Painter throws a better ball than Carr but Carr knows our offense inside and out and they felt comfortable with him for many years.

Painter is terrible though. His time with the Colts, he was putrid.

Painter didn't look bad in the pre season though.

Monday's Practice News and Tweets: 9/2

-JPP, Hyno, Cruz, Moore all out there practicing. Baas, Diehl and Kuhn on bikes
-Jason Pierre-Paul + Damontre Moore are practicing today ... hey, so are Hakeem Nicks + Antrel Rolle + Terrell Thomas + Corey Webster #NYG
-I've thought all along JPP would play Sunday night, maybe with with snap restrictions, saw nothing to change my mind on that front. #NYG
-Victor Cruz had not run on flat ground as of Friday afternoon, but that has changed + he looks good
-Victor Cruz is on the field for practice. No apparent issues with cutting, running routes. Good sign as Cowboys week begins for
-Barring any setback, you can already pencil in Victor Cruz for the starting lineup Sunday night against the Cowboys. Very fluid. #NYG
-Henry Hynoski participating in practice today #nyg
-Jayron Hosley is back at practice today #nyg
-David Baas, David Diehl + Markus Kuhn on bikes to begin practice #NYG
-TE Adrien Robinson (foot) is not at practice.
-Coughlin on JPP... "His bursts were good."

Not like it's going to make a difference either way.

How many games is Eli up to now? Longest active streak IIRC?
