I don't think it was a bad play call. If you run and don't get in, you probably get 1 more play and the game's over. Incomplete pass and you probably get 2 more plays.

I understand the pros of throwing during that down. I still believe they are outweighed by the cons. However, for agument sakes, why did they choose a slant and pick in the MiDDLE of the field, instead of an out route or back corner fade where the defender has no chance to make a game ending play

maybe because captain hindsight was in the locker room at the time

1. They had two timeouts and 3 downs. So obviously one of those plays the clock has to stop without a timeout.

2. An out route toe the corner of the end zone takes longer to develop than a slant does. Wilson literally hiked the ball and threw it

3. If you're throwing it to the corner right after the snap, you're likely lobbing the ball, giving it a ton of hangtome. in other words, easier ball to pick off
