The time doesn't stop in football (soccer) to enhance the fluidity of the game, it's been discussed time and time again, as well as the option to have a certain amount of 'timeouts'/challenges throughout games, as it's seen in the NFL.
Problem is that european football fans love the intensity you can get from a game where a team is chasing, where you aren't forced to wait second because the clock has to stop at certain times or the winning side is able to slow down the play of game by pausing the game.

In Europe game clocks goes up, not down, that's an american way of doing things and yea, it works really well for the kind of sports that you're playing, but it just wouldn't work in Europe due to the way things has been done historically.

And the last statement i've quoted makes absolutely no sense and just proves how much you actually pays attention to the game.
The added time is announced by the 4th official on the sideline, when it's announced the stadium announcer makes the announcement over the stadium speakers in order to tell the players as well as fans on the stadium about the time remaining.

he prefers sports for the mentally handicapped like basketball where not only is there a giant shot clock at both ends of the court right above the target you're aiming at, but the crowd likes to countdown (usually too quickly) anytime it's inside 10 seconds

I think he means the extra time should be continuously measured and therefore posted on the screen at all times. So if a player gets injured it should start iterating when he goes down and once he's off the field and play resumes it would pause but still be displayed. Not randomly chosen at the end of regulation.

or better yet, the clock actually stops during play stoppages, and counts down instead of up like every other sport.

it's the same thing. just learn to do simple fucking math. durrr 37 minutes on the board- 45 in a half- 8 minutes left. anyone with half a brain does that math so instantaneously in their head that it's a nonfactor.

yeah, a normal sport where running into a section of the field gets you 6 points, kicking sometimes gets you 3 and other times gets you 1

and soccer is the one with stupid rules...

It's not just a "section of the field" it's the section of the field your opposition is viciously defending. You wanna talk about rules? If the ball accidentally touches your hand in your end of the field, the other team gets a penalty kick which is pretty much an automatic goal. That goal could be the only goal scored in that game. So your whole team just lost and is out of the tournament because a guy kicked a ball at your hand.

lol no shit its not about doing math, it's about conducting a game the way it should be conducted. Everyone is aware of how much time is left, that was never my point at all.

What exactly was your point then? One of the oldest games does something differently then the game you watch? Either way, your point is fucking retarded.

It's alright to not get something or not like something, just leave it the fuck alone and let others enjoy it if that's the case. Game ending bad calls happen in every sport, it's up to the ref to try and not fuck up that hard. If it's a 100% accident, generally a pk will not be awarded. Intentionally blocking a ball coming towards your goal is an automatic red and a penalty kick.

that's your opinion about how it should be conducted- an opinion not shared by everyone. you're acting like it's a universal rule. With soccer it makes sense- considering you don't know how much extra time is going to be given until relatively close to the end what would they do if it counted down? jump from 2 minutes, to 7 if 5 extra time? so then we're just adding time to the clock mid play?
