Exactly. Great coaches play to their player's strengths and put them in the best situations to win. They don't try and force players into doing something they shouldn't be doing just because that's the scheme they run. It almost never works out.

The Texans defense made even Chad Henne look good last season. We have to improve our front seven pass rush somehow. Only the Raiders and Jaguars had less team sacks than the Texans in 2013. No other defense forced fewer turnovers than the Texans' eleven turnovers. If we don't improve our defense with more talent it's going to be hard for our offense to score 30 points a game just to have a chance to win.

People still criticize Jadeveon Clowney for not racking up double-digit sacks this past season at South Carolina. They don't even take into account the double and triple teams he was generating. I wonder if he had been rushing off the edge as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense if he can bypass some of those blockers. He won't see a constant double team with the Texans playing on the same defense as J.J. Watt. That's for certain.

JJ Watt got double digit sacks despite being double teamed. As a 34 DE.

You act like a lot of players can make that play. If you're not impressed by that play then I don't know what to say.

I'd be willing to bet the majority of the pass rushers in the NFL could do that with their eyes closed.. The LT didn't even jab him at the line... Clowney had a free release and crashed inside hard.

Watching the clip again. I'd be willing to bet Clowney's job was to crash hard inside after the RB, knowing he had a guy behind him (#42) who's job was to probably play the QB.

People will call me a homer but I believe J.J. Watt is the best defensive player in the NFL. But he got beat up a lot last season. His sack total went down from 20.5 to 10.5. Every game his nose would bleed. That one game against the Colts at Indianapolis the offensive lineman from the Colts, Gosder Cherilus, punched his ribs in between plays. Teams could basically destroy J.J. Watt all they wanted because he's the only dominating player we had in that front seven once Brian Cushing went down with his season-ending injury.

You do say majority, but I doubt Antonio "The Ninja" Smith could make that play. The aging, declining right end we have in our 3-4 defense right now. I don't even know if the Texans are going to re-sign him. He's going to be too pricey for his lack of production.

I don't care if the Texans had Joe Montana in his prime at quarterback. If we go into 2014 with the same shit defense we're not going to be any better than 5-11 or 6-10. Give me a small 5'11 quarterback in the third round like Russell Wilson. I'll show you a Super Bowl team within a few years if we can have a dominating defense again like we had in 2011. It just sucks Mario Williams went down with a torn pectoral muscle.

If you go back and look at those seven straight games we lost by one score with Case Keenum at quarterback...
We'd probably win all seven of those nailbiting losses if we had Arian Foster, Jadeveon Clowney and Brian Cushing.
We'd have gone 9-7 last season and not 2-14. I know we can win a lot of games in 2014 regardless of who our QB is.

3rd round QBs worth starting from Day 1 don't grow on trees.

Although Mettenberger would be my pick to develop into a starter of those QBs not projected in the 1st or 2nd. His style of play could allow him to turn into the next Schaub, ironically, only with a stronger arm.

-not a Day 1 starter though, of course.

Exactly right. I even told draino about that. Zach Mettenberger or Aaron Murray would be worth taking a chance on in the later rounds. Both are coming off ACL injuries and probably won't be 100 % until the 2015 season. But they could be drafted and learning as a rookie in 2014. I don't believe the Texans want to start a rookie quarterback anyways. They're going to groom whichever quarterback they draft. The starting QB for the Texans during Week 1 of 2014 will probably be a veteran.

Exactly. Hako wants Teddy Bridgewater to fall to the third pick but all he does is laugh and mock the possibility of the Texans drafting Jadeveon Clowney or Johnny Manziel. The Texans were a 12-4 team two seasons ago. I'd worry more about the Jaguars and how far away they are from having another winning season. The Texans still have a lot of talent to work with. It's not like they are in a totally bad position. Just some luck staying healthy with guys like Arian Foster and Brian Cushing would make a world of difference.

If there is anything I learned about Hako he argues just to argue....I remember 2 years ago when he tried to argue with me about how Gabbart was going to be a good QB

I agree with you the Texans are much mroe likely to make a turn around than the Jags who haven't been a legitiment threat in the last decade
