Giants Working To Perfect No-Huddle Offense - MUST read

http://boards.giants.com/showthread.php?32815-Giants-Working-To-Perfect-No-Huddle-Offense

Read it there, it's much easier on the eyes.

This makes me VERY happy to hear... we almost NEVER utilize the hurry up tempo offense.

Giants - Colts: 5 Things To Watch

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/gia...hings-to-watch

"Three weeks from tonight the Giants will open the regular season in Dallas. That’s a very small window that surely doesn’t make Tom Coughlin very comfortable. He didn’t exactly think his team looked ready after their performance in their first preseason game.

On Sunday night against the Indianapolis Colts at the Meadowlands, he hopes they’ll look a little closer. He’ll play his starters a little longer – maybe 20-25 plays, probably deep into the second quarter – and he’ll be looking for them to look a little sharper than they did in brief action in their preseason-opening win in Pittsburgh last week.

--The defensive tackles and the run defense: I know. Yawn, right? Watching big, beefy defensive tackles form a wall for running backs to run into isn’t exactly highlight-worthy, but it’s hard to underestimate the importance of that for the Giants. Their No. 1 priority this offseason was fortifying the run defense and strengthening the middle. It’s why their top free-agent target was Cullen Jenkins, and why they re-signed Shaun Rogers and added Mike Patterson and drafted Johnathan Hankins. Unfortunately the results weren’t great against the Steelers. Coughlin didn’t love the big runs the Steelers got against his first-team defense, and I noticed more than a few plays where the defensive tackles seemed to be going backwards. If they can get pushed around this year, the Giants’ defense could be in trouble. They could use a more stout performance against the Colts.

-- The linebackers: They were exactly what we thought they were last week: Average at best. Adequate. OK. Meh. The truth is that if the Giants get a pass rush and decent play out of the secondary then “Meh” could be good enough. But it would really help if one of them escaped the Meh level and broke out to something along the lines of “Oh, hey!” (Really, where else can you get analysis like this?!?). The point I’m trying to make is that it would be nice if one of this Gang of 7 stood out. The Giants have what could be a decent group, but there’s no one who scares opponents. No playmaker. Even the players know that one of them will have to start making plays if they want the group to be any good.

-- Running back Michael Cox: The kid turned a few heads with his training camp play and how hard he ran in the opener. With Ryan Torain and Da’Rel Scott nursing injuries there’s a big opening for the third running back job, too. He’ll get more than a few chances to show his stuff in the second half. What the Giants really want to see is him get a few chances on kickoff returns. They see him as David Wilson lite – a guy with some explosion and burst who could be better-than-average in that job. I sense the Giants would really rather not have to use Wilson as the kick returner again. As good as he is in that role, he’s now just too valuable to their offense to risk him as a full-time special teamer. If Cox emerges, it could give the coaches just the out they need."

Carr is the backup QB tonight.
Painter will be the backup vs the Jets.

Battle of the backup QB job.

Nassib I think has a Hammy so he's not playing.

As far as the first half goes... overall not bad

Offense:

-David Diehl love him to death but he has nothing left to give. He got in excellent shape changed his diet and everything but he's done. I lost count how many times he let his man blow by him.

-Online... hard to critique when Diehl was absolutely terrible. Pugh got no time with the 1st string for some reason... Snee got beat also which isn't a good sign

-Run game looked pretty good aside from the asinine delayed handoffs. You can't win with Gilbride... play calling is so frustrating.

-Eli looked like he was forcing a lot of throws then again he had no time to throw, what else is new... once Cruz went down started forcing throws to Nicks.

-WR's - Nicks didn't look up to speed, Cruz has a bruised heal which doesn't sound serious thank God, Randle needs more looks his way if Nicks isn't 100%, not sure why Hardy was in with the firsts... dropped an easy TD catch.. he actually got a couple looks.

-Redzone play calling looked terrible... I counted about 3 or 4 delayed handoffs... it got blown up every single time. Gilbride is so unimaginative.

-TE's - have to get our TE's involved more in the passing game but it's easier said than done when Diehl is getting blown up every snap

Defense:

-Defense actually looked good just some things didn't go our way, like that TD by Wayne that Ross should have picked off

-Hosley looked like they were picking on him. He's still inexperienced.

-Dan Connor won the starting MLB job tonight

-Herzlich just doesn't have it after beating the battle for cancer. :( Feel bad for him but he simply isn't good enough for even a backup spot.

-Pass rush:
-Tuck!!! Looks spry and active. Strength is back which is huge for our defense.
-Kiwi looks good back on the D-line
-Still have yet to see JPP out there and Moore was out tonight as well.

Overall it's pre season, I'm not concerned with much aside from the O-line. Pugh needs to start, not Diehl. I can't imagine Diehl will start this season after how bad he was last year and this game.

Second half: Hankins and Austin made some nice plays. Ojomo again played very well... going to be hard to cut him... not sure what we do there because Adrian Tracy is definitely making the team.
