I would say that it is whenever a defense rush with more than 4.

Additional rushers outside of defensive linemen
FWIW, PFF says we blitzed 3 times. Little discrepancy in their definitions there.

Some people define a blitz as bringing more than 5 rushers, some define it as bringing anyone who isn't a DL. It's a very loose term.

Hate to say it but this is exactly how our defense went last season...lots of blitzing, good pressure, creative packages in the preseason. Then pussy-ass playcalling with no fucking extra rushers at all for the whole regular season. Look at some old Eagles footage (McNabb era), learn from their aggressive attack-focused defense. We don't have the DBs to do it as well as they did, but we have a front 7 that can attack and needs to attack if our defense is going to hold up. Look at the complex blitz packages, learn something from when and how they bring pressure, and adapt the playbook towards that goal.

Totally. We could learn a lot from the blitz packages Rex Ryan employs. Obviously he's had the benefit of Revis for a long time, but still. Stunts, A/B/C gap blitzes with the LB's, so on and so forth. We have to bring more pressure if we're going to be effective as a defense.

Pressure only goes so far when there's wide-open targets everywhere.I'd rather see us a dress our secondary first and foremost.

Well duh. Obviously. The difference is one thing is schematic and can be done next week. The other is a yearly process that needs to be addressed in the draft and free agency.
Schemes produce pressure, roster adjustment produces a good secondary.

Pressure and coverage go hand in hand. It's not this or that. It's both.

Need the personal that can make the scheme succeed first and with mack tuck (eh cuz age) and bringing in smith I'd say we need to shift focus to the personal on the other end of the equation. We started the year with hayden as a starter. He needs to go but we r so damn short now

We need the depth and the talent in order for any scheme to work. We dont have that in the slightest in our secondary

We have pass rushers. We have the personnel that makes pressure feasible. That's not in question here. There's no excuse for how little pressure we got on the QB with the talent we have in that area. That's inarguable.

The issue of improving our secondary is completely different. That's where we need to improve our roster. Hayden should be a nickel DB at best. In fact that's probably what he's best suited for. Incredibly small, incredibly quick, and does a great job following/trailing the receiver, just needs to work on turning his head when the ball is in the air.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Yeah we should of had more pressure and ran more blitz but u also have to give Cinci o line credit cuz that's a beastly fucking unit. We have talent there just needs some adjustment here and there as far as play call and what not. We dont have shit in the way of secondary and imo that needs to be like number 1 priority. We can't even stop dez from going deep on us right now, in fact hayden would probably get drawn on a flag. Idk losing chuck and Allen hurts bad to an already shallow talent pool. I'm tired of this "address it in the draft and free agency" stuff. It's crunch time right now otherwise all these young prospects r going to be another veldheer in 4(?) Years or so. I wouldn't blame them either especially mack and cooper

wat

how else are we going to improve our secondary if not through the draft and free agency? TJ Carrie is the only one who's worth half a shit right now. I'm not saying we shouldn't continue to develop him/our other DB's... but we just simply need better players.
