If Jenkins can work on his missed tackles against the run (he missed 16 last year, per PFF), many will likely look back on this deal and praise Roseman and the Eagles' front office once again. He had a down year according to his standards, but overall he's definitely an upgrade over what the Eagles had out there for sure.

Jenkins is an upgrade, and you'll be happy with the flexibility that the Eagles still have because they didn't need to overspend on a safety.

Byrd is not worth $9M a year committing that much guaranteed money to him. Eagles knew that, and didn't want to just spend on the best safety available just because they had it. If they were going to spend huge, it was going to be on a player they REALLY wanted.

edit: keep in mind, Eagles don't need to spend all the money they have available just because it's available. Look at who they are going to need to re-sign next year, some important pieces...

I thought Byrd was easily worth 9 mil.

At least we got rid of Chung. Was tired of seeing him take out our own players.

Eh, maybe...

I guess the Saints are going to find out.

The Eagles clearly weren't that fond of him, and felt that $9M wasn't worth the difference he'd make and I hate how everyone in Philly is mad because the Eagles didn't sign the big name player. I like to see a franchise that has discipline, and knows when to strike for a free agent. A franchise that doesn't just spend because they have it and a guy has a name that is well known. Eagles are known for being a very fundamental franchise and building through the draft, not overspending for free agents, and locking up their own players to team friendly deals before they hit the market. 2011 was a shock to everyone to see them go crazy in free agency like that, and it didn't work out. They're back to being wise again as they have been over the years, and you gotta respect it. They're not "scared" of making a mistake again, but they learned from their mistakes you could say.

The funny part here is if they were to have gotten Byrd, spent all that money on him and he didn't pan out the fans would be blaming the front office saying they should have never signed him blah blah blah.

And for the record, I don't think Jenkins is set in stone as the starter. I think they'll still draft this year and next, and let it pan out and see who is worth it. If Jenkins turns out to be a bargain, then good. If not, then the draft could take care of that safety spot and Jenkins can be cut in a couple years. The front office wasn't sold on Byrd being a cornerstone back there for years to come, for that price tag. So they want to build via draft, which is the best way to go really. They're flexible still.

I'm not too big on signing big name player because dreamteamrofl but I thought Byrd was easily the biggest difference maker. I thought he would be worth all that money if he doesn't pull Fat Albert and become unmotivated after getting paid.

I think Jenkins is a mediocre safety at best and doesn't seem to fix our safety issues. I would love us to draft a Safety depending who falls to us. If HaHa or Pryor falls to us, I'm all for it.

It's one thing to pay corners mega bucks, it's another to pay a damn safety that much...

His cap hit is only 3.5 mil this year.

Seriously I hope Jenkins doesn't fit our safety mold of not being able to tackle or blow off coverage in crucial times.

Draft HaHa pls

Eagles signed Miami's Nolan Carroll 2 years 5.2m.
Good signing by the eagles imo.
He's still in development, crazy fast and can quickly read the QB's eye and change his route on receivers.
