I thought Byrd was easily worth 9 mil.
At least we got rid of Chung. Was tired of seeing him take out our own players.
Eh, maybe...
I guess the Saints are going to find out.
The Eagles clearly weren't that fond of him, and felt that $9M wasn't worth the difference he'd make and I hate how everyone in Philly is mad because the Eagles didn't sign the big name player. I like to see a franchise that has discipline, and knows when to strike for a free agent. A franchise that doesn't just spend because they have it and a guy has a name that is well known. Eagles are known for being a very fundamental franchise and building through the draft, not overspending for free agents, and locking up their own players to team friendly deals before they hit the market. 2011 was a shock to everyone to see them go crazy in free agency like that, and it didn't work out. They're back to being wise again as they have been over the years, and you gotta respect it. They're not "scared" of making a mistake again, but they learned from their mistakes you could say.
The funny part here is if they were to have gotten Byrd, spent all that money on him and he didn't pan out the fans would be blaming the front office saying they should have never signed him blah blah blah.
And for the record, I don't think Jenkins is set in stone as the starter. I think they'll still draft this year and next, and let it pan out and see who is worth it. If Jenkins turns out to be a bargain, then good. If not, then the draft could take care of that safety spot and Jenkins can be cut in a couple years. The front office wasn't sold on Byrd being a cornerstone back there for years to come, for that price tag. So they want to build via draft, which is the best way to go really. They're flexible still.
